  1. Yeah that kinda describes the way it feels. I guess the best way to explain it, (which is why I replaced the fuel filter and the injector right away) is it's like she suddenly runs out of gas. No, if it's out of gear, she does fine, you'd never know she had a problem. DUH! It just occurred to me that a TPS is the throttle positioning sensor... now I feel dumb. At least no one had to tell me. Thanks for the link, that should help as well. -LOB
  2. My next guess would be a clogged cat, yeah. It's not pinched anywhere. The vacuum leak theory makes sense too I think. Wish I knew what the heck Torxxx was talkin' about! Hope he comes back on before I head out to work on her tomorrow.
  3. Yep check engine light is on. Don't have a clue about codes. What's a TPS? ... and I've already changed the injector.
  4. First thing I did was replace the fuel filter. No change in performance whatsoever.:-\
  5. This goes way beyond being a dead spot, from about 3/4 in - to floored on the accelerator, this one DOES NOT run. It will die if I don't ease up. I haven't been able to floor the accelerator since the engine was swapped out, although in every other way she runs fine. I had a "dead spot" in my other wagon for a while before she croaked, that was tolerable, and I still drove it, until she spun a rod bearing. There was a plug wire loose from the coil, fixing that helped smooth out the idle quite a bit, and on the second check of her timing, we made sure to plug in the check connector -(thanks to Snowman!), but even so, she was only off about 1/2 a degree, so that didn't make any difference in the acceleration problem either. This one is so bad I won't drive her until this is fixed. I am afraid I'll end up being rear-ended, or cause an accident, cause I just can't rely on her to get up to speed fast enough to be safe. Thanks for the comment! LOB
  6. LOL, Spraying with gas was an accident! Pulled the fuel lines to swap out the injector, and the fuel delivery system had plenty of pressure. Hadn't thought to check for a vacuum leak yet. but will do. thanks for the input!
  7. '88 gl wagon, SPEFI, bump the key & she fires right up, will idle all day, doesn't quite purr, but idles pretty nice none the less. Seems to run just fine until I get on it. As I put my foot into the pedal, there is a certain point when she just falls flat, almost sounds like she's gonna die on me, but if I ease up just a bit, -it takes a second or two- then she'll clear up and continue to accelerate. Sometimes, if I'm not into it too heavy, she'll bog down, and then clear up on her own, at least in first or second gear. I have to baby her to get up to speed, driving like a grandma (and I'm not one yet!!!). I've tried replacing the fuel filter, swapping out the injector, (there seemed to be plenty of fuel pressure when I pulled the lines, I sprayed gas all over myself and the car!) double checked the ignition timing, (less than a thousand miles on a recent engine swap), and plan next to check the exhaust system for any obstructions. Do any of you have any thoughts on this? Has anyone run across these symptoms before? Any input or advice would be appreciated! By the way I've missed it here! Glad to be back! LOB
  8. I am posting, really just to keep this thread active, so that any other local subie fans might have the courage to speak up and get involved. I have been PM'd asking when the next meet might be. Anyone want to set something up? Might be fun to go tear up the new snow huh? My subie's down at the moment, so transportation is a bit of a problem for the time being, but my schedule is wide open for now.
  9. A moment of silence please for the little red wagon........................ She was my third subaru, and a wonderful companion. I was so sad when I was forced to retire her, and am really bummed that she is no longer with us. Apparently the wrecker took her to the crusher this weekend sometime. I didn't know until this afternoon. Please understand if I don't post for a bit... Alright, I think I'll be OK now.
  10. Oh yeah, wagon (88gl) is burgundy, with gray interior. any other questions, PM me or msn mesenger if I'm on. Up for grabs everyone, If it doesn't find a home SOON, it'll go to the crusher, as I can't store it there any longer.
  11. Sounds like an excellent idea to me, count me in! I'd help out any way I can. also have a few people I can recruit. They're not big on confuzers, but love subies like the rest of us. YAAAAAY, cool stickers!!!
  12. It's free for the taking, only condition s are you gotta take the whole thing, and asap! No engine, interior is not totally complete, and dismantled, been sitting for a little over a year. missing a few other parts as well, not sure what.I can set it up if you'd like to go see it. It's in anchorage, and I do have a clear title.
  13. Howdy, Who's Kelley? snowman? Delivery still hasn't made it. Oh well. (It's the second of my El Caminos) He was pretty late in the evening last time too. Hope you have a nice stay in Anchorage Torxx!
  14. Hope you guys are havin a good time. We had an important delivery expected, got stuck waiting here, and the driver has yet to show up. Well if we had gone, we would probably still be there havin' a good time! Gotta go, I think it's here now.
  15. They haven't yet, maybe they type slow?, or maybe they're a bit shy? I searched the memberlist for "AK", and besides a guy from Kodiak, (figured it's kinda short notice for him, maybe it was wrong to assume that tho) they are what I found. Oh yeah, alaska_brat also, different than AKbrat, I hope. I figure if someone talks to them, maybe they'll talk back, after all I was quite shy on the forums myself at first.
  16. Just PM'd a couple newbies (more newbie than me!) AKbrat and AKKrooner, to be sure they know of this opportunity.
  17. Hey guys, just got an El camino, so been a little side tracked, but there's a possibility myself and the other half may be in the big city this weekend too, let me know where you decide to meet up, we might be able to make it. (By the way, hooters, bush co. don't rattle me a bit. If its thai food, I'd love it, but there's no way he'd go with. Doesn't like the smell of stir-fried rice even. (WEIRD)! NE way, hope to be able to meet with you all!
  18. Sorry, I got this a little late I guess. But I've been working at the fair, painting kid's faces:) . So I guess I couldn't have made it anyway. Sad that I missed out. plus I could tell/show you LOTS of excellent hidden trails... Ever been up Petersville mine road? I'd like to go explore up there sometime. When can we try again?
  19. One thing I do still really miss about WA is the trees. Nothing like those big cedars. When I moved to AK, I remember my little Bro whining that the black spruce trees up here look like worn out bottle brushes in comparison. Do you live anywhere near the south fork of the Nooksack River?Bluesoob, you do don't you? have you ever floated it on inner tubes? I loved it when I was a kid.
  20. "died to to lack of lube (like my old lady )." I don't know if I'd mention that, both sound like an operator errors to me...
  21. Maybe you like the newer friendlier version better, most guys do:slobber: , not so scary? I like what the other one has to say better.
  22. Ditto on that one, also have to squeeze in the fair. I usually work it with my kids.
  23. weell Oddcomp, I don't know what you THINK you see but I think it's pretty nifT myself;)
