  1. Nice! Yeah I think the 3" is a bit excessive, but that's what she came with! It sounds really good in person. Yeah both the switches are still hooked up, just tucked behind the temporary dash right now. I still haven't had much time to work on it yet, moving into the house it's sitting at in about 3 weeks, so hopefully once we are settled I'll get more time to work on it!
  2. Here's a clip with the Magnaflow race muffler installed. I think it sounds really good! Will update again once purchase the next thing on my list! Seats!
  3. Installed two toggle switches and a momentary toggle switch for acc, run and starter in the RX. OEM switch was bad and I couldn't shut the car off. The muffler is finally getting installed so it isn't deafening.
  4. Well I got it figured out, 1 toggle switch for accessory power, 1 run and a momentary toggle switch for the ignition, so it basically does what the oem ignition switche used to do, just 3 separate toggles. All wired up and now I can finally shut the car off with the switches instead of stalling it. It might be stupid to you, but I don't need a key for this car, it's a rallyX car only, not going to be street driven at all plus it accomplished what I wanted.
  5. I'd rather spend $9 on some switches than buy a new ignition switch. This car is offroad only and will only be used for RallyX. As of now the switch doesn't shut the car off and I don't want to have to stall it all the time, so I want a switch to shut it down and figured I would do the momentary switch for the starter. Same thing the key does, just with 25amp toggle switches and 25amp momentary. I work for a company that manufactures electronics, I'm more than capable of soldering some wires and putting some switches in place. All I asked were what wires on the ignition switch were which, but thanks for giving the standard "don't" answer. I think I figured out which wires were which anyways. I'll report back when it works.
  6. I did a little bit of reading on the site and I want to take my ignition apart and re-route the wires to switches on the dash for my RX rally project car. Right now it starts just fine, but turning the key off does not shut the engine off. Could I pretty easily put a switch off the existing wires to kill the engine? I want to do a setup to have one switch to turn on the ACC power and another momentary switch for the push button start in the future along with the killswitch to shut the engine off. I'm just not sure which wires are what and if it would be a good idea to use the ones off the factory switch.
  7. So the best thing to do would probably just use a GM sensor with the GM version fuel gauge then?
  8. I'm looking at gauges for my RX project and the brand I have chosen to go with it Equus (there are already 3 in the car.) I'm replacing the stock cluster with Equus tach, speedo, volt, oil pressure, water temp, boost and fuel gauges. My question is, does anyone know what the fuel lever sender(s) ohm range is from empty to full? There are 3 Equus gauges to choose from: FORD/CHRYSLER -Empty=73 Ohm, Full=10 Ohm GM/ -Empty=0 Ohm, Full=90 Ohm AMC/SW -Empty=240 Ohm, Full=33 Ohm I read that some (most?) Subies have two sending units wired together at 0-45ohms each. Can anyone clarify for me? I want to make sure I order a sender if need be with all the rest of my gauges. Would be sweet if one of the above gauges worked though! Thanks!
  9. Started cleaning the RX, prepping to spray the interior with bed liner. Cleaned up the engine bay.
  10. That was my engine of choice should this one grenade on me sometime. If it comes to that I hope you don't mind me asking some questions!
  11. Yeah, I know they are super rare, but it had already been terrorized a year or two ago. I don't plan on jumping it or anything crazy, just racing around some cones in the dirt. I've actually seen lots of pictures of yours, it looks amazing! Made me want one to fix up, but I found this one already stripped and figured I'd work on it and run some rallyX.
  12. I lucked out having found it already stripped of the interior for sure! And yeah, it is younger brother, you're right haha. I guess big brother power-wise lol.
  13. Here's some pics of the rest of what I'm working with! The current dash. It's not horrible, should come in handy as a template for the new one. My stock WRX shift knob found a home too. Yup, she's naked. Going to get scrubbed clean, wires tucked and rhino lined. Seats gotta go too. Not bad under the hood, needs a little cleaning and some stray issues taken care of. Spectre intake was a plus. The intercooler is off a Mitsubishi Starion apparently, custom mounted with kind of a strut brace built in. May take a 2nd look at that. Sweet pedals and a cluster fluff of wiring to secure behind the new dash. 13" Enkei Bananas Awesome broken side vents. Probably just dremel the center bar out and put some mesh in. They go right through haha. Cracked windshield and more signs of neglect. With big brother over at my new house! Excited to start on this thing, it's going to be a fun project and learning process for sure. Can't wait to run some offroad rallycross in the future! So far the power windows and locks still work, center diff locker, headlights, tail lights, dome light and hatch struts are nice and strong, Hi/Lo transfer case works. The blinkers don't work and neither do the dash or any of the gauge backlights. Stock tach and speedo work, but are coming out anyways. I'm gonna have all kinds of fun switches and lights to put in the dash and center console!
  14. Well I'm taking the plunge in probably a bigger project than I want but hey, I want something to wrench on and build at my speed; AKA the rate at which money is allowed to flow from my bank account, which is slow. LOL I'm picking up a 1989 Subie RX Turbo coupe Thursday, you've probably seen it on CL. The interior is....well, gone, but that is fine with me as I plan to turn this beast into a rallycross car and boss mob some logging roads with. I'm going all metal dash, center console, door panels and rhino lining the floor, hell maybe the whole inside. Keeping it relatively mild on the outside, maybe a brush guard with some fogs, some rally flaps, possibly paint it flat black (unless the paint isn't in too bad of shape) and prob gonna rock the Enkeis that are on it. Definitely going to look into the suspension department, Bart and Nate might be busy making me some bushings and other fun stuff! In my head I could go on forever on what I want to do to it, but I'm trying to stay realistic with my skills and funds. But, she has potential. Picked it up on Feb 8th, holy crap is it loud and most definitely illegal for Boise lol. It actually ran pretty good, I didn't lay into it at all because it was so loud I really didn't want any attention from Boise's finest. The whole way home I was running through what I want to get done on it. It actually felt good in the handling department, took bumps well, didn't rattle at all (very nice) and soaked up the water drainages like they weren't even there, no bouncing at all. Oh and the power windows WORK! Right now, my list is this: Change all fluids Compression check Install a resonator and/or a muffler in the 3" turbo back (Magnaflow most likely) Tighten up the shifter with the bolt mod Short shifter (not short throw) I feel like I'm driving an old rat rod with how tall it is now. Probably cut and weld it. Relocate battery to the trunk Fab up a dash, door panels and center console (prob need some metal working skills help!) Bed liner spray the interior Equus Tach, Shift Light and Speedo (already has boost, oil pressure and water temp) Toggle switches for head lights/tail lights, dome light, locking center diff, fuel pump, ignition and a push button start (and other things I know I'm forgetting. I like switches.) Roll bar/body brace/harness mount Decent race-ish seats and 5-point harnesses Spare tire mount in trunk Mud flaps Front bull bar with fogs Front skid plate Adjust clutch, like 7/8s of the throw does nothing Check out the brakes, they felt pretty good on the drive Crawl all over it cleaning, that's the best way to find "issues" I am pretty impressed that it had no oil drip spots of any kind underneath it and it had been sitting quite a while, but I'll check again next week since I drove it about 10 miles. He told me he replaced all the gaskets in the engine, installed a Walbro 255 fuel pump, new gas tank trying to track down a problem with it awhile ago, said it was a rusted out fuel tank contaminating the lines. Hopefully the old EA82T isn't too tired yet and we can get some use out of it. But, if and when it blows, I need to come up with a swap plan. It had a little noise coming from the rear end when rolling, could be a bearing, kinda what it sounded like. Not squeaking though.
  15. Host them on photobucket or flickr and copy the tag and past it in your post.
  16. Thanks! I'm not planning on restoring the interior, it's going to stay stripped and receive some seats and 5 point harnesses along with a roll bar at some point. I'm debating on fabbing a metal dash/center console or just finding OEM ones, haven't quite decided yet. I'm not much of a metal fab guy, but I know some people that are good at welding. I'm leaning towards the metal as this car will be strictly for rallycross.
  17. Awesome, thanks for the info! I'm not much of a welder (yet) so anything that is direct bolt on swapping is best. It'll be a slow build ($) and I'm still not 100% sure what my end goal is. First I'm focused on the interior. Oh and it doesn't have the badges, just the Subaru logo is the only one left.
  18. Hello Ultimate Subaru, my name is Ty, I'm 23 and from Idaho. I own two Subies, 1st is a 2006 WRX TR, my daily driver here in the snowy mountains! COBB Stage2 Fujita F5 SRI SRS Type-RE 3" TBE SRS 4" Bellmouth DP 17" MB Weapons AC Boost Gauge Custom Billet shift knob STi Roof Vane STi Wing Yakima Rack Blacked Headlights I just yesterday picked up a 1989 RX Turbo coupe, EA82T. 1G Talon BOV Custom TMIC 3" TBE (WAY too loud, needs a resonator and muffler ASAP) 13" Enkei Bananas Short Ram I picked it up in Boise as a bare bones project car and it is. Runs pretty good, recently had a new fuel tank, Walbro 255 fuel pump and all engine gaskets replaced/installed, new MAF along with the TMIC and scoop setup. The interior is 99% gone, no heat, no AC, stock dash is gone, door panels gone, which is fine with me as I plan to rallycross this car in the future. For now, I just wanted something I could work on in my spare time that isn't my daily driver. I'll start a build thread soon, will have the car at my house next week, have to trailer it. It drove good, it's just really loud and totally illegal right now. The suspension felt nice, took the water drainages like a champ, nice and plush. I got plans for this thing! I'm new to old Subies so if anyone can point me in the right direction on what other parts work on this thing, lemme know! EA82 wagons, Loyale, GL, DL, what should I be looking at for parts compatibility? Thanks in advance, glad to be on the forum! Ty
