  1. Well Brett and his Wife came on Saturday and the Brat is gone.  I am sad but these two are really going to make a happy home for the Squirrel.

Best part of the sale is the Brat wouldn't stay running.  Has to be a fuel issue.  They tried to drive it around the block but she kept dying.  I have never seen two people so happy to not be able to drive something they drove 9 hours to get, lol.

    Good luck to you both!

  2. Ok, Brett you are two steps ahead of me, lol.  I was going to lead you here as well and show you this great site.  Lots of wonderful info and countless resources.

By now I am sure you have read through the thread.  You really can see where I have taken her.  I am glad you are enthusiastic about taking her home and continuing.  Like I stated in the for sale adds, she is not perfect but will be a fantastic foundation to finish.

    Congrats again.

  3. Good luck with the sale. You have done a great job, it's well worth more than the asking price. If I didn't have so many cars, I would consider shipping it out here, but I have way too many as it is. Hope it goes to a good home!

Agreed.. You have done a lot of great work on that car.. I would feel guilty bringing home another Brat when mine is being neglected.

    Thank you both!

I am scared it won't sell though. Anyone that wants one is on here, lol.

    Time will tell.

  4. why does she tick sometimes? I am new to the forum and have a 2013 WRX hatch. Ive had her for about 5 months. I want to know why i hear a certain ticking in the engine sometimes (2.5l F4 Turbo) is she spooling down? also, sometimes she lurches when i accelarate from 1-2500 and if i were to deccelerrate while in gear it will also lurch some. WHy?

Short answer for the tick - Subaru

Short answer for the lurching - bad factory tune.  Subaru intentionally sends these out the door with a bad lean condition that is more harmful to the engine than a tune.

I had a 2011 and it was the same.  Do yourself a favor and get a Stage 1 tune.  It really helps the fuel mappings and lurching.  You will not find many here to help you with a 2013.  Head to NASIOC.com and start reading!!!

  5. Ah, but paint means priming.  Priming means sealing.  Sealing means
bodywork.  Bodywork means filling.  Filling means sanding to bare metal,
    lol.  You get the drift.

If I really keep going I know it wont be ready for a while and I am just about finished.

What I have listed up there is FAR less than what needs to be done.

  6. afterfires are just a combination of air/fuel/heat in your exhaust.  the exhaust is hot and most cars run extra fuel through into the exhaust, so its mainly a game of finding where air is getting into the system.  check ASV's and for exhaust leaks to start.

Will do.  I am pretty sure it is the old exhaust as it has some leaks in it.  The heads were the main leak but I was able to use new studs and seal that up 100% better.  I am thinking it is after the Y-pipe.

  7. I went with a non-kit Weber DGEV (electric choke) and the Redline adapter plate.  I finally got everything routed properly and after some electrical issues she has been running great.   Well running great except for an occasional afterfire, lol.

I used the Hitachi linkage with some washers for the throttle.  Works great.

She seems to have a bit more power but the cool factor is the sound when the second barrel opens up.  Sounds like a V8, lol.

  8. I just started thinking that i did not re-wire the 78..i just ran an electric to eliminate the manual one when the bearings fried( Melted the fan off the mountf romk the friction of the belt).. anyway i just checked the wires and the fan has a blue and a black coming from the wire harness directly under the radiator and the switch wire is a solo black with a female round post connector comin from the same harness as it branches out to the passenger side headlight. i does this right under the battery platform.

    Hope this helps.

Thank you I will check.  I have looked for this thinking it should be about there location wise but nothing.

And you are right, these harnesses always seem hacked.

  9. After having kids, and also having to compete with a gazillion SUVs on the CA highways in my little Brat, I went the route of just letting her be a garage-filler for the most part. I only drive her occasionally around town, or to camping adventures on a road that's 55mph, or up into the hills on fire roads behind our house. For the most part, she's just a  pretty garage ornament. Yep. Kids change priorities.... but they love riding in the back!

Well, I am not sure my Son will get the chance as he is 6 months old.  It was an ambitious project for the non-kid guy in me.  I thought about giving it to my Brother but he has kids as well.

In the end I am seeing the need for a boat anyway.  The Wife is really hinting at that lately and I think it is time I oblige her wants as well.  Trying to be less selfish I guess....

When it comes down to it all that remains is:

    Rest of the body prep.

    Painting.

    Brakes need a once over.

Might need a cv or bearing in the front.

    Lighting gremlins.

I am debating if fixing these things is worth it or just throwing her on Craigslist.

  10. backfire or afterfire? backfires come out the carb, afterfires come out of the exhaust.

im guessing afterfire from the sound of it.  check to make sure your ASV is plugged off, you may have left it open when you pulled the air box.  also it could be an indication of a too rich condition.

Afterfire - I never knew there was a difference.  Basically I turn her off and wait for the explosion every time.

I am thinking she is just rich.  Need more time to adjust.

Firing order is 1324 anti clock rotor rotation, some get the normal inline 4 firing order mixed up with Subes flat4 firing order

    Was I wrong?

O.C.D. you SAID please read, but NOT to not post LOL.

I will say thanks for posting the ?s though, sure does make for good info.

    Ok, semantics, lol

  11. K, either I am not getting this or I am just stumped.

The the fan has two wires coming from it.  The harness up to the fan has two wires coming from it.  Unless I am losing it I assumed that these plugged in together.  The leads off both are offset and seem to be what was intended but I cannot say.

So you are saying I need to wire the switch to the negative off the fan and then run a hot to the other from the battery.  That would remove the two wires that are connected to the fan right now.  What are those two wires for then?

  12. Nice!  I thought all that hard work was for you to enjoy not to unload.

I thought so as well.  The Baby has really changed my priorities in a good way.  The Squirrel will do me no good at this point in my life.  She will just sit there and take up space.  I am not sad though; I love the project and have had a blast.  She will be a good catch for someone.

I really like what you are doing with this! keep up the good work man. Glad you got it running!

Thanks, been a long rebuild, lol.
