What years/models of trans works?

I got a hot lead on a '92 legacy wagon. It has 165k mi. and the auto trans. is bad. Where do I get one of these, and how much do I pay for it? Also, the head gasket/timing/water pump has not been done yet(to the guy's knowledge), how long can I expect to run before doing these things?

Seems to be slim pickings in the Rockies right now. I'm looking for a work car that is able to take a couple of trips home to Missouri, go fishing in the mountains, grouse hunting, and camping. My FSJ's are built to the hilt, but the AMC 360's get about 10mpg. My budget is $4k. Am I looking @ the right vehicle for many needs?

What is considered " low miles"? Fair condition books out @ $1700?

Good call. I was thinking around $1000. People around here tend to think that whatever "blue book" says, that's what they'll get.

This isn't a "tech" question, but I didn't see a place for general questions. I'm looking at getting my first subaru. Is $2200/obo right for a '91 loyale/156k mi./good shape? Seems high to me.
