I did the oil seal on my 90 legacy 2.2 not too long ago. Change O-ring on the back of the pump Use Ultra Grey (permatex) on the pump housing Tighten the screws on the back of the pil pump (you will see them when you have them off. Torque the oil pump to spec Replace the oil pump/crank seal on the front of the pump I don't know how many miles you have on your 96 but I would suggest doing the water pump and timing belt while you have it off. Once you have those taken care of....drive on for another 60K miles.

Companies that use Subaru powerplants, helpful sites, etc

A friend of mine had an old beetle with a 350 in it. Can you say "wheelstand?" -
get the 95 if it has the 2.2 (EJ22) look under the hood for the emissions tag and there you will see 2.2 or 2.5 then see if there is any paperwork on it. Subaru reccomends the timing belt be changed every 60K miles. If you but it do a carfax on it (might want to do it before buying) and see what it reveals then go ahead and change the timning belt, and water pump. While the belt is off go ahead and change the seals (3) on the oil pump and tighten the screws on the back. If you do the work yourself be sure to "burp" the sheeot out of the cooling system....then.... Drive on for another 60K miles. I have 242K on my 90 and I love it. IF you do not get the 95, see if the lot will come down on the 91....because you will have to do the same procedure on it. Hope this helps.

I like to drive my roo thru really dry grass in the everglades and watch the trail of fire behind that my hot exhaust caused. Then when the trail runs out I like to make my own. I whip out the old chainsaw that smokes waaaay too much and chop some trees down. Sometimes I displace a birds nest or two but it's ok because I fry up the bird eggs and make me a chickidy omlet. I really hate when my oil leaks out of my oil pan when I make those stream crossings. I like that I can take my old tires and batteries with me when I go off-roading and then leave them out in the middle of nowhere. Out of sight, out of mind.

The parts manager says, "I have been with Subaru eleven years." I asked, "what kind of roo do you drive?" and he said "I drive fords" I then said "It must kill you to stare at dependable cars all day." I know it was kinda cruel but the picture of his Ponticrap on his desk and the stupid tech just p1ssed me off. Thank god I work on my own car. If not I would have to tow my car 45 minutes south of me. I told my wife that the tech should just give me his shirt and go home.

I think if enough people speak up then Subaru will have no choice but to bone up tp their mistake. They should have issued a recall. I don't think there is a single person on this board who hasn't looked at someone posting about their 2.5 HG and thought...AGAIN! I hope you get what you are after. Try to hold off a few weeks so I can find me a 2.5 with a blown HG. I want in too. We understand you are PO'd but the caps made me cry. I felt like you were yelling at me. MOMMY!!

I was at the Palm Bay Florida Subaru dealership today ordering a part for the Roo when one opf the techs walks over to order a part from the parts manager. I figure while we are both waiting I will ask hiom some questions. ME: "My power light is blinking 16 times, what does this mean?" Tech: "Do you know how long I have been working on Subarus? Nothing like having your question answered with a question... ME: "How do you diagnose the illuminated check engine light on a first gen legacy?" Tech: ":-\........................uhhh I have only been here for about a year." Shouldn't Subaru tech's know these things???

We still want you there. No matter what you will be driving. You are a part of the club. I think one of the salesmen from the local Roo dealer will be attending the meet this saturday. I look forward to seeing you all out there. Lets shoot for high noon. I thought we could go to this really good restaurant not far from where we will be meeting and grab a bite. Please let me know if this sounds good or if we should scrap that idea. I figured we could sit arounf some big tables and chat.

You can go with a 5MT or 4EAT (auto) tranny. They did make AWD and FWD (front wheel drive only) trannys. No you can not turn a 2WD into a 4WD. I mean you could...if you can weld. Welcome to the wonderful world of Roo's. Enjoy your stay. If you treat your car right then you will be around for a long time.
