So not sure if it was cause the valves were to tight or me messing with the distributer but its in time now. Only thing is the idol is still up at like 2500-3000. Why might this be? Or how can I dial it down -

haha yeah i guess they wouldn't be called a cams on these motors. the cam i left alone. the rockers is what i pulled. my next task then will be to check the valve clearances then. I will prolly get time to tear into it again tomorrow. but now that i think about it would make sense for the clearances to change slightly if maybe the head gasket was thicker or thinner. I double checked my plug pires. put #1 at tdc and set them up that way. -

I didn't change anything with the valves. Pulled the rockers and cams off as one. Went back as one. Maybe they came out of adjustment due to different head torquing? -

I dont get it.... if i advance the holy jesus out of the distributer it will start and run. still with a high idel. used a timing light to look at the timing marks on the flywheel and im way off. it i try to retard the timing closer to where it should be it just stumbles and dies. the weird thing is i didnt touch the timing at all. i pulled engine, replaced head gaskets and put engine back in. all my vacuum lines look good. What could have possibly changed for the timing to be so far off all of a sudden? it ran fine before i replaced the headgasket -
Okay so here's the deal I change theand head gaskets on mythe ea81and everything seems okay fired right up I got spark, compression, I have fuel and then I shut the car off to hook up the alternator and because I didn't hook up the alternator. Car wont start now. I unhook the alternator to see if it was anything I did. Still no start. I still have spark, comp, and fuel. I say eff it for the day. Come back today. Clock the distributer at full advance (clockwise) car fires right up. Idling high as ************ ofcoarse cause its so advanced. Try timing it and it wont run aside from full advance. Which is weird cause it didn't need to be clocked like that before. See my temps getting high so I shut it off and hook my fan up to battery to keep from overheating. Car wont start again. Triedjust ************in with the timing and nothing. I still have spark, comp, and fuel. This is the weirdest thing. I didn't touch the timing before or after doing the heads. It started right up before I did the headgaskets. What has changed. All my vac lines are hooked up right im pretty sure. Im just at a loss.

super productive day. got the engine pulled, ordered a new head gasket kit, pulled the seats, carpet, and door panels. cleaned and vacuumed everything. going to see abut getting the driver seat reupholstered. found out the brat has what i think a custom carpet kit. it has like snaps that hold it down to the floor so its a breeze to remove and clean. wiped down all the door panels and dash. removed all the excess wiring that was left behind from the previous stereo install. I can now sit in it and not feel like im going to get eaten by spiders or contract aids. yay! found out why the car has so many issues. there are gremlins undermining me lol. these are hand painted on each fender. kinda cool. the seat on the left is cleaned. was about to clean the driver figured i would snap a before and after clean carpet, before shot of the panels, then after shots and a sticker thats on the rear slider. Im gonna leave it

I guess im the only person to ever own a subaru and have wiring issues? Lol
-
i plan too. but i know there is other stuff going on with other components of the vehicle. so i would still like to see if i can find a wiring diagram and fuse panel diagram. thanks for your input tho
-
I have some wiring gremlins i need to sort out on my 81 brat. I have no headlights, tail lights, brake lights, and my wipers dont work. fortunately for me the online manual program that i use for work. via snap-on. has no information on my vehicle. so i was wondering if anyone knows where i may be able to find a wiring diagram here or somewhere else online. any knowledge is much appreciated. thanks

Body part match up?
ratbrat replied to raging squirrel's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
as far as tailgates those only interchange between them selfs. the 2nd gen and 1st gen are different. so are lenses im pretty sure. only within the generation and same body style. -

thought this might be a good idea for a thread for the up and coming 4x4 enthusiast. I may need some help from the guys who have been doing this a while. Im new to wheeling subi's but not wheeling in general. Stuff i like to bring on a good outing. now im talking a lengthy outing that might last a whole day a ways away from civilization. maybe camping trip? -drinkable water -spare oil, coolant, ect -tow strap -flash lights -non perishable food (i personally like to bring mre packs) -batteries -fuel -jack -bailing wire -rope of some sort -zipties -12v air compressor -spare tire -can of fix a flat (if spare isn't handy) -CB radio -winch (if u can carry it, I have used one to change a tire once when a jack was forgotten. very handy in many way) I know there is tons of other stuff. like tools! but im not super subi savy so im not sure what tools to list... help with that guys? Or anything u like to bring that i didn't list Of coarse you wouldn't bring all this stuff on every outing you go on. Gauge your trip and pack accordingly. You don't want to be under prepared when u break down and your miles away from any form of cell reception or ppl. Be safe have fun guys!
