  1. Are you welding beads or spot welding it together? Don't weld beads, just stitch it with spots. then use an air gun to cool each spot weld.
  2. did you just put bondo over the rust?
  3. Ha, Thanks for the history on it, sounds like its been around the block a couple times. I'm glad I was able to buy the car, It has been a $hit ton of work. I'm not sure if anyone else would have put the effort into getting it back to where it was presentable and drivable, for the price it was listed. I ended up getting it for 650 and paid 200 shipping to Portland. I'm actually selling the old EA81 to a guy named Ben, probably someone you know.
  4. Since finding a 79 subaru DL in the junkyard yesterday I was able to finish all the little hoses and nicknacks I needed to get it on the road including scoring a Y pipe in excellent condition ($15). I'm going to take it the the exhaust shop tomorrow to get a simple set up from the end of the Y pipe back. Cleaned it up, gave it a wax and BAM had to take a fun picture after driving it! Still need those god damn jump seats though
  5. Air flow, exhaust and fuel are all fairly easy things to change and can make a huge improvement. 1. Port and polish the heads, If you are savvy you can do this yourself. 2. Take the intake manifold off and smooth out the casting, allowing for better airflow. 3. change the carb. 4. update the exhaust. cutting it off after the y-pipe and putting in a new non stock system. the old system probably isn't working as it should and also weighs a lot. 5. Buy a K&N air filter
  6. try going through your wiring and cleaning the contacts, that and flush the transmission out and add new performance marked gear oil. I would advise carrying around a small fire extinguisher if you are having wiring problems, until you can figure it all out.
  7. sounds like a damaged CV joint behind the rotor. I would also figure that maybe if you washed your engine or pressure washed it, the water could have got in from the gear oil dip stick tube.
  8. Wow, very nice condition, If you need any other parts let me know. I may be able to help you out in the future as well. shouldn't be to hard to find a transmission to fix you up!
  9. Right on man! I've learned that as long as the stuff is recycled within the community of enthusiasts, Its all good when its said and done. no matter what kind of swap you are doing, there is always someone looking, or needing the parts you are going to discard. in the case of the EA81 and 5speed, it will be going to a guy in Bend, OR. KEEP EM ON THE ROAD!
  10. Re-skinning the roof is about as much work. eventualy sandwitching the metal and bondo will create more rust and more work. find a donor.
  11. ^ Agreed, after really looking at the rust in the last picture, I would also suggest a roof transplant. It's easy just measure twice and cut once.
  12. Some things I got done, swapped the engine trans and driveline back to the original EA71 swapped the whole wiring harness with a non butchered replacement. got some stocker wheels and tires on UN-rigged some bastardized engineering. concerning fuel lines, and name anything else. got it running pretty nicely, still needs exhaust to test drive. feeling like a chump without jump seats though, gotta get on that
  13. You need a fender? I have a rough one, but its in better shape.
  14. My morning started off with this, a $350 craigslist score sitting in my driveway. Believe it or not this is a solid, mostly rust free runner. Getting a move on.
  15. Do you still have any brat parts for sale? Im in portland, and in need

  16. Hello, wanted to know if you are still parting out the brat? I need the complete wiring harness. Let me know, I'm in portland, or

    Thanks

  17. I've never been a fan of aftermarket wheels, I don't plan on off roading it. Bigger tire and wheel combos usually put added stress on the transmission wich leads to premature wear. Also the e81, I know that it's an improvement but being that the 79 brat is my dream car, I'd rather have it powered by a 79 engine and transmission. enjoy the car for what it is, and was.
  18. Yeah, It has the 5 speed and dual range, though I'm not sure if this is going to work. I might end up swapping for the original engine and trans. I truly like them stock and simple. In fact if someone wants to trade local Id be down for the engine/trans. I know people are always trying to upgrade. Also If someone could give a rough estimate on the Value of the Pugeot wheels? Im not really a fan and would prefer a stock set. thanks
  19. EA81 was dropped in thats about it.
  20. Just picked up this brat from a craigslist deal in BEND, OR. some may have seen it online but it was I! whom purchased it. It needs a lot of work, mostly electrical, but there is no cancer on it. Came with a couple of boxes of extra parts, doors and a hood as well. Will periodically update on my progress. anyway here is the machine.
