  1. Hello Tom. Congrats on the family and your son Jason and the lifted Subaru adventures in your future. I've been off the 'board for a while but still have my Subaru 3 door lifted car and my wagon and many stories connected with the USMB from oh, a decade ago. So as your pal in Idaho, welcome....pick your line, and keep on the throttle! Ross in Idaho
  2. From the days gone by archives a moldy-oldy subaru picture of some gooey hole in washington somewhere: Note: 1st trip thru above ^ good picture, bad technique (Edit: Photo credits to Zap) Hi USMB! Much love. Sorry no talky for so long. Computer in baby room (8mo old) not a good idea. Keep em rollin Ross in Idaho
  3. Congratulations Jared. Good to see the R&D getting underway immediately. Nice to see John's garage biz producing! How did you do it with deadlines by going out there yourself. Seems like John likes to work with an audience. **Just bustin' John's chops a little bit--no disrespectin** Good stuff I hope you like it. That's the badass-est 1600 wagon I know. Also thanks for the pictures I have enjoyed this thread a bunch. It is nice you got to visit some of the USMB on your drive back. Ross in Idaho
  4. Yup, buzzed the terminals with a scotchbrite disc and some wd-40. Wanted to fire up immediately! Thanks to northguy. Either I always miss the easy stuff or it pays to have another set of brain cells around. Man that car purrs like a kitten now. Gotta do some more buttoning up and install the rear diff again. Then my wagon gets back on the road again...for another 146,000? Ross in Idaho
  5. Yes, if I run into too much more problems I may end up with a button up under the dash Ross in Idaho
  6. That sounds like good advice. I'll clean up those terminals and see how much better it feels. Thanks.
  7. I guess I should note that I'm not positive the distributor isn't the culprit. Having swapped it over for the install also not sure it isn't off a tooth, resulting in the not wanting to start condition. Some people shouldn't have tools. Ross in Idaho
  8. Hi gang. Seems like I don't get around here as much anymore, but I've got a question that's stumping me. Problem: Key in the ignition...turn the key to forward start position...CLICK...kills the dash lights, no start. Vehicle: 1986 Soob wagon, 1.8 L Carbed, MT, 4x4. Background: I'm finishing off the CCR Inc. motor install (probably the slowest install in history!!) Previous to the motor going in I had a bad ignition switch that wouldn't spring back and thus the starter remained engaged unless you turned the key back a notch manually. So I have replaced that with a switch from my parts pile. Last night it did work enough to crank on the starter, never could get 'er to turn over though. Is it possible my battery doesn't have the goods to crank it up? I charged it overnight but it is old and might not be up to the task. Any other parts you suggest I check? Alternator? Starter motor? I'm anxious to hear this motor fire up so any help is appreciated. Formerly magnificent_subaru on the old board, just shortened now to m_sub, it still is me. Hope everybody is doing great out there. Ross in Idaho
  9. I have had the pleasure of a couple of offroading trips with Jason and John in Oregon. Jason's sense of humor will be missed. He is the kind of guy, there's one in every club, I bet, that is just a little crazy, willing to push the envelope and most likely to tip his rig or get real stuck. And he wasn't pizzed off about it more likely he'd have some funny things to say. I made a DVD of the footage from our LaPine, OR trip and the funny stuff was all Jason. I said over and over that I wanted Jason to be in every video I make from then on--just because he had so much charisma. My thoughts are with Christy and the baby. Sory I'm too far away to make it over Friday, but I'll raise a toast to Jason. Ross in Idaho
  10. Adam, Just checkin in the subaru world. Your brat looks fantastic!!! Way to go. Coilovers seems like a nice solution. Good to see this project gettin around on its own. Later, Ross in Idaho P.S. don't forget pix of it in action
  11. If you haven't disconnected the sway bar you might try that for some extra room on moving the steering knuckle. I have an EA82 with the 3" BYB/PK kit. I was going to go wheeling last weekend and I haven't been driving the car for a while (my wife is) so I went about tightening the lift kit bolts. Well, I snapped one of the bolts on the strut tower extensions. When dropping the strut outta there it was helpful to undo the auntie-sway bar as well as spraying penetrating lube into the knuckle and spreading it a bit with a flathead screwdriver. Hope this helps. Dont forget to take photos, y'all. Ross in Idaho
