  1. Thanks for the direct link. Roof Rack... does it include the necessary mounting hardware? My roof oil cans a lot, even when just riding down the highway... just wondering how they hold up with weight on them. Also, really digging the front bumper. My wife caved in the original when she rammed into something... been wanting to replace it for a while. Cool gear.
  2. I am potentially interested in all of these items, but I would liek to get a look at them. I understand that the website is under construction, so that's probably why I can't set to the Subaru link. Does anyone have these items installed on their vehicle? Perhaps there is a photo or two of someone's ride I could look at on the boards? Thanks!
  3. I just finished replacing both front drive axles on my 86 GL Wagon today with the help of this thread... http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=75750 Do it just like this thread (as others) have described and it will all make perfect sense as you go. I have limited experience with Subarus, but after performing this service I can't imagine and easier way. Pressing the axle back into the spindle may be a challenge, but read this entire thread and you will be offered a couple of suggestions on how to accomplish this.
  4. 86 GL Wagon here... replaced clutch and front drive axles. I'm pretty new to the Subaru scene, so due to that fact (and the 100* temps we've been having), I worked on these items for over a week on and off. If I had to do it again, I"m pretty sure I could knock it out in a weekend if the weather was nice. This 86 belonged to my wife, but she offered to give it to me if I wanted to fix it up, so I made it road worthy and will probably play around with it more as time permits. The drive axles were a little intimidating at first, but once I got going it wasn't too bad. This thread helped me a lot... http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=75750 I'll admit, the passenger side went in a little easier than the drivers side, but I did have to cut a spacer (~1-1/8" long) from 4130 tubing in order to press the axle into place using the axle nut. Not a problem in the future... pretty straight forward. I'm pretty impressed with the overall construction of this vehicle and relative ease of access and maintenance items. This is a Limited Edition model with D/R tranny and electric locks, windows, etc. Everything works great. In fact, the original owner provided all service records since new and it has been well maintained. With 185,000 miles and an engine that does not burn oil (yet), this ought to be a fun car to play with. I sure do appreciate the tips and reference materials on this site. I have a Haynes manual, which certainly helped me perform tasks in the proper order... but most of my study for servicing these items came from this forum. Good stuff here.
  5. Studying the diagram you sent, it would seem that your first guess was right... a Holley H2-5200. Further investigation tells me that this carb was modeled after the Weber 3236... I wonder if I shouldn't just work with it a bit?
  6. Right, there are markings in a couple of locations, but nothing that makes sense to me. The tag in the second photo reads... L7760 3460 On the front (center) it reads A-2 and at the base it reads R7760. On the left side it reads B-2 and 2F 5675 B On the right side it reads D-3 Nothing that I can see on the rear, and nowhere do I see Holley, Webber, Hitachi, etc.
  7. I recently purchased an 86GL (EA82) wagon that I would like to do a little work on. One of the items I'm considering is a Weber carb as this vehicle seems a little doggy in the low RPM range, but before I do that I would kind of like to know what I am replacing. Anyone recognize this unit? Is it the stock carb? I can't find any markings that would indicate a brand or model.
  8. Howdy all... my name is Mark and I live in Owasso, Oklahoma (NE of Tulsa)... I recently acquired a 1986 GL Wagon. Everything works (lights, power windows/locks, runs great), but the clutch is shot and the front drive axles need to be replaced. The previous owner has given me all the new parts as well (clutch kit, exaust gaskets, front drive axles and Haynes shop manual). The engine (EA82) runs well with 180k miles clocked. I am the 3rd owner... the second owner did not have it for long and the original owner provided ALL service records since new... this individual was super anal... it's all there... regularly scheduled oil changes, tire changes, general service, everything. A wonderfully maintained vehicle with only one dent in the passenger door. I'm a fairly handy sort (performed my own vehicle maintenance for years and currently building a full sized airplane), but the front driveaxles look as if they may be a PITA. I've got offers to do the entire job (drive axles/clutch) for $600... may start with that in order to get it back on the road asap. Anyhow... I look forward to learning what I can on the forum. I hope to put a bit of a lift, some wheels/tires and perhaps a beastly sounding exhaust under this rig. I have reliable transportation, so this is purely a project that I would like to keep streetable/reliable, but make it a suitable chariot for a veteran paratrooper. OD green and flat black paint will soon be in order. See ya'll around!
