  1. I have felt the same way....and once went ahead and bought a brand new Ranger...$350 a month truck payment plus full coverage insurance.....killed me..I paid $600 for my Loyale a year ago..I have replaced the left axle shaft twice...first one was bad...and just recently dumped about $350 in parts when I lost a cylinder..Still need to do the EGR sylinoid and some gaskets. When I add in my $5 a week for gas ...I get about 38 MPGs...It is much more cost effective to keep the Sub going. I figured it out to my operating expence for my car to be about 25 cents a day if even that much..I know he is going to need a clutch soon but the car got 184,000 miles out of the original..so it should be good for awhile once I change it. My 88 GL wagon I had lost the fuel pump..I about died when I priced the new one..ended up getting one from a JY and it took me all of 10 minutes to put it in. And new or newer doesnt always mean better..My 96 Taurus I had ended up with $4500 in repairs in a year ..true warrentee covered most of it but the down time on the car was terrible. And I do 90% of the work on my cars myself and I make time for it..its worth it to me..I save a ton of money doing it that way. Connie 92 Loyale Wagon (Bucky)..blah blah blah
  2. I hear ya...I think my Loyale has lots of life left to him.I get lots of compliments on his condition and when others take a ride in it they always say they are impressed on how well he still runs.I have a nice spot in my living room right now perfect for working on the motor..wont be the first time ..I rebuilt my dirtbike in my living room and keep it in my bedroom. Glad to hear that it looks like the CV boot.My goal is to get over 300,000 out of Bucky...want to keep him till there is nothing left of it. Connie 92 Loyale Wagon (Bucky) 5 spd, pwr everything,2wd, and only 185,000 miles...just starting to get broke in.
  3. My 92 Loyale does the same exact thing..only on long trips it will shoot oil everywhere...when you stop you sware the thing is on fire. I thought the same thing about the CV at first till I had to replace that axle.I found most of mine was a leaky drain plug pinch ring.I still have to do the valve covers and oil pan gasket and then I will be able to see if that stops it. But then again a friend of mine always told me...a leaky subaru is NOT a rusty subaru . If I had a second car I wouldnt hesitate pulling my motor and replacing all the gaskets and clutch. 4. I feel their pain!!..I just moved from PA about 6 months ago. Grew up right outside of Carlisle..but now I have found the only place worse than PA ...CT! I hate it here. Only good thing about PA is the number of old Subies that are around. Here in this part of CT I sware I have one of the only "older" models around. I have only seen maybe 4 since I moved here. But I do kinda miss seening the young Amish boys "drag" racing thier buggies down the road.
  5. Anyone know where I can get a set of the old suby wagon wheel rims here in the North East?? I want them to kinda "retro" my Loyale a bit and do something different to it.Tired of seeing the spinner rims around here.I have tried ebay and the junk yards with no luck. Any help would be appreciated. Connie 92 Loyale Wagon..2 WD ,Power everything 5 spd and only 184,000 miles..not even broke in yet!
  6. I am intersted in this too since I need to do the same in my 92 Loyale. Been putting it off for a year now.And on your side note...YES! Lucky for me I have been working on cars all my life..Just not so much with the Subies (This is my 3rd one..88 GL Wagon, 90 Justy, and my current Loyale). And on another side note..why am I the only person who cant seem to ever find a 4WD one??
  7. I been lurking around here for a few weeks now and learned alot from these crazy suby ppl..My check engine light has been on in my 92 Loyale wagon since I bought it a year ago..I finally learned about the ECU and ran the codes..bought a manual to tell me what the codes were...Low and behold ..it was the EGR sylinoid! Just wanted to say quick that its nice to know I am not alone with being a die hard Suby fanatic..specially with the old ones.
