  1. The middle number is your width..and the lower the number the wider the tire..the 80s will be fine..they are just a little narrower than what you are running right now. I always run 175/70/13 on all three of my Subs I had.
  2. I have had them too, always wondered how to get rid of them besides my method..dont know about it till the nest catches on fire cause they made it on the exhaust manifold...or in the heater fan when it burns that out and your suby has a horrible odor that stays around for awhile. I heard moth balls works if you arent going to be driving it for awhile though
  3. I go through about a quart a week with my Sub....you get used to the smell and the smoke can be fun at times! Like I said before..I was told by a wise Subaru mechanic...a leaky Subaru is NOT a rusty Subaru:brow: BTW..I am hooked on this forum too!
  4. Happy B-Day to you too soon.Another one of us "cursed" ones:grin: . I just feel so bad for this guy..has an old Brat which arent that common and to have some jerk come and do damage to it and then leave.Guess its cause I am the type that even if I accidentally open my door into someone elses car I will at least leave a note. Now this guy has to either drive around with the dent or pay money out of his own pocket to fix it....burns me up. Oh and yes I am female..always have been..but not your typical one..I been working on cars all my life and also race Enduro races on my dirt bike.
  5. I know your pain!!! Happens to me alot too.Specially since I moved here to CT.The ppl in the Danbury area are a bunch of rich snobs and have no respect for others stuff. My Loyale was dent free when I bought it and it has been hit twice now in grocery store parking lots. I nailed the person who did a big scrape up the front fender with their cart.I asked them if it was their car that they had thier cart pushed up against and they guy said no..I wouldnt drive an old POS like that.I said "well I happen to own that POS and dont appreciate you scraping up the side of my car" He then said it doesnt matter..my car is old who cares what it looks like..so I grabbed his cart and SLAMMED it into the side of his new Infinity. Then said "How you like it?" He was speechless. Havent heard anything from that ordeal either ..happened months ago. I know how you feel..I try to keep my cars as nice as I can afford..I cant afford new stuff and I have pride in what I have.I like when I get told I have a nice old Loyale..that its in great shape for a NE car..pretty much rust free...it makes my day. Then to have jerks come along and ruin it ..it just isnt right. Sorry you made me want to vent for you...this stuff is a huge pet peeve of mine.
  6. What year Chrysler?? I happen to know the trick to getting the codes on those. And if I look hard enough I might still have the book somewhere.
  7. Can this newbie come??? I am always looking for something to do on weekends that usually involves my 2 favorite things...my Subaru or dirt bikes.
  8. Mine Too!!!! My 92 has been super dependable..It has 184,000 miles on it and still runs like a champ. What I have found(thanks to this group) to go wrong frequently are EGR sylinoids, gaskets and typical axle shafts. This is my second Loyale..ok well my first was an 88 GL wagon but the car was basically the same thing...and I love it!It was the best $600 I spent ( a year ago)
  9. Thanks guys for the input so far. I should have mentioned too that I like to keep my cars till there is nothing left of them.I heard that the 2.2L motor is a great motor. The price on the Impreza is $3200 havent checked the mileage on it or really looked it over. But my Loyale still runs like a champ too..I think it still has another 120,000 left in it:brow: ....want to kinda keep it till it has 300,000...but I think that price on the preza is pretty good.It was just the thought. As for the timing belts..I got almost 100,000 out of the set thats on Bucky right now (previous owner left all reciepts in glove)and with the snow treads I put on the front my FWD seems pretty darn good in the snow. But I dont think he will handle hauling a bike trailer when I get my new dirt bike this spring.
  10. I was wondering...which is the better Sub.. my 92 Loyale or a 96 Impreza wagon?? I found what seems like a good price on the Impreza but I adore my Loyale. My Sub has been super dependable ..even with the few normal problems it has and I just love the car. But I would die for a 4WD or AWD one.I cant afford 2 cars at the moment.I guess more of what I am asking...are the older Gen Subs better then the new ones?I know they are easier to work on. What Pros and Cons are there between the 2?? Opinions are greatly appreciated
  11. I can understand that..the wieght difference.. But when I am running 65 MPH my rpms run about the same as yours. Now ..if I turn the AC on I think I get around 2 MPG . I dont baby my Sub one bit but I did recently do basically a new ignition system in it and cleaned the injectors so that is probably helping alot. Still want a 4WD one someday...maybe when Bucky hits 300,000 I will get a 4WD
  12. I forgot about that!!! I agree..the movie was awesome..a must see!!
  13. Doh!!! Why didnt I think of him first!!! I got his number too. Guess its cause I am still pretty new here..but I have learned a TON in here. You guys and Gals are the best. The ppl from my dirt bike forum are calling me a traitor since I now spend more time here than with them.
  14. Hey its true!!!when the guy at the muffler shop got my car up on the lift his first words were "Holy *#%@$ what exploded under your car?" My reply was.."You see any rust under there?" and his reply.." No"...mine.."point made!" I didnt realize there was that much of a difference between the FWD and the 4WD Subs gas mileage. I feel spoiled now.
  15. I was just wonding if anyone here in the NE area might have a good Cat pipe?? I just went to get my exhaust fixed from when it fell off the other day. I thought my problem was just at the muffler flange but it has a crack at the cat flange. They did a temp fix just to quiet the car up for me but a new cat pipe is gonna run me around $420 installed and the complete exhaust is going to be around $600. Now granted this was at Monroe Muffler but it gave me a good idea of price. I cant really afford that so I wanted to see if anyone might have a good used exhaust they want to get rid of.Or know of a cheaper place to get one?? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!!!
  16. My 92 Loyale 5spd FWD gets between 38-40 mpg and has 184,000 miles on it.But I leak oil from probably every orifice that these cars can leak from:) at least mine will never rust underneith.
  17. I had a 90 Justy about 7 years ago....mine was a FWD 5spd....thing was great in the snow. Mine was rust free and had 85,000 on it when I bought it for $500.I put a clutch in it and the typical axle shafts.I used mine for a delivery car and it was great..at around 98,000 miles though the lower bearings started to go in the motor...which I was told was common on them...dont know though.I gave it to a couple kids to take out into the woods and finish it off ..as long as it went to the JY when they were done..I should have mentioned ..it had a run in with a deer on the highway one day..needless to say..the Scooby won!But those kids got a good 2 weeks of playing with that thing before they blew it.
  18. I think your scooby was talkin to my scooby!!! The 13 year demons are starting!! You know the ones that possess your beloved car when it hits 13 years old. On my way to work at the Native American festival ( I happen to be an injun) here in my area of CT, the exhaust started to fall off. No signs or nothing this car was soo quiet as of yesterday.Waiting for it to cool off then I have to crawl under it and see if I can rig something up for now.
  19. MMMMMMMMMMM...Middlesworth!!!!! And cant forget Amish Potato salad... When I lived upstate NY first time I went to grocery store I asked for it and they looked at me like I was outta my mind.
  20. I have felt the same way....and once went ahead and bought a brand new Ranger...$350 a month truck payment plus full coverage insurance.....killed me..I paid $600 for my Loyale a year ago..I have replaced the left axle shaft twice...first one was bad...and just recently dumped about $350 in parts when I lost a cylinder..Still need to do the EGR sylinoid and some gaskets. When I add in my $5 a week for gas ...I get about 38 MPGs...It is much more cost effective to keep the Sub going. I figured it out to my operating expence for my car to be about 25 cents a day if even that much..I know he is going to need a clutch soon but the car got 184,000 miles out of the original..so it should be good for awhile once I change it. My 88 GL wagon I had lost the fuel pump..I about died when I priced the new one..ended up getting one from a JY and it took me all of 10 minutes to put it in. And new or newer doesnt always mean better..My 96 Taurus I had ended up with $4500 in repairs in a year ..true warrentee covered most of it but the down time on the car was terrible. And I do 90% of the work on my cars myself and I make time for it..its worth it to me..I save a ton of money doing it that way. Connie 92 Loyale Wagon (Bucky)..blah blah blah
  21. I hear ya...I think my Loyale has lots of life left to him.I get lots of compliments on his condition and when others take a ride in it they always say they are impressed on how well he still runs.I have a nice spot in my living room right now perfect for working on the motor..wont be the first time ..I rebuilt my dirtbike in my living room and keep it in my bedroom. Glad to hear that it looks like the CV boot.My goal is to get over 300,000 out of Bucky...want to keep him till there is nothing left of it. Connie 92 Loyale Wagon (Bucky) 5 spd, pwr everything,2wd, and only 185,000 miles...just starting to get broke in.
  22. My 92 Loyale does the same exact thing..only on long trips it will shoot oil everywhere...when you stop you sware the thing is on fire. I thought the same thing about the CV at first till I had to replace that axle.I found most of mine was a leaky drain plug pinch ring.I still have to do the valve covers and oil pan gasket and then I will be able to see if that stops it. But then again a friend of mine always told me...a leaky subaru is NOT a rusty subaru . If I had a second car I wouldnt hesitate pulling my motor and replacing all the gaskets and clutch. Connie 92 Loyale Wagon (Bucky) 5 spd, pwr everything,2wd, and only 185,000 miles...just starting to get broke in.
  23. I feel their pain!!..I just moved from PA about 6 months ago. Grew up right outside of Carlisle..but now I have found the only place worse than PA ...CT! I hate it here. Only good thing about PA is the number of old Subies that are around. Here in this part of CT I sware I have one of the only "older" models around. I have only seen maybe 4 since I moved here. But I do kinda miss seening the young Amish boys "drag" racing thier buggies down the road.
  24. Anyone know where I can get a set of the old suby wagon wheel rims here in the North East?? I want them to kinda "retro" my Loyale a bit and do something different to it.Tired of seeing the spinner rims around here.I have tried ebay and the junk yards with no luck. Any help would be appreciated. Connie 92 Loyale Wagon..2 WD ,Power everything 5 spd and only 184,000 miles..not even broke in yet!
