  1. The only time my mileage has dropped that much was when I lost a cylinder due to an ignition problem and was dumping raw fuel out the exhaust. Pull your plugs and look for funny wear.Also..new plug wires, cap and rotor.reset timing, and like snowman said..is your check engine light on??How is your Cat?? is it starting to get clogged up? Geesh thats bad!!! I just did my ignition system and cleaned my injectors...made a huge difference. My EGR sylinoid is still bad so my check engine light is on (electrical tape fixed that ) I think the worst I got from mine was 25-28 MPG.
  2. On my 88 GL wagon...nothing..that car ran great!! no ticks no leaks..I was running with aquart of ATF after the glorious clogged PVC was leaving smoke streams and filling my airbox with oil.At that time I knew nothing about Subes and took it to a dealer who couldnt tell me anything. My neighbor (I lived in heaven..right across the street from a JY)told me what was wrong and what to do about it.showed me all the clogged lines etc.Started running it that way and got another 70,000 miles out of it...I had to Junk it at 260,000 miles due to too much frame rot.Motor was still running like a champ. My Justy I did the same to "prevent" the same thing.Car never saw 100,000 miles before the bearings went....made a wonderful low knocking noise at all times. At that time I was told (by a Sube mechanic) that it was common for those motors to go at a young age (it was a 90 Justy). I couldnt find a new motor so I sent that to the JY too.
  3. Mine doesnt seem to affect performance or gas mileage. If it does its just a tiny bit. I usually let it run for 5-10 minutes before taking it to the road when the ticking is bad.Mine comes and goes though until the motor is comlplietey up to operating temp. But it has been getting better. My fuel economy is through the roof..I can run all week on $5 (2 and 1/2 gallons..I laygh at high fuel costs .HA! )Now I dont put many miles on Bucky now ...maybe a 100 or so a week on average.
  4. The latches like to get sticky after awhile ..or sometimes the return spring breaks or comes dislodged from where it attaches to. Is it acting like its "bouncing" off something or like the latch isnt returning over the hook?? Get in there with a flat head screw driver and dig around the latch..see if you can move it with the screwdriver. kinda sounds like the return spring is broke. I have had this happen to doors, trunks, you name it..also try WD-40 around the latch as you move it..(open and close just the latch mech with the screwdriver and the key) and see if it frees it up. Its easier to fix than explain:grin: but i have done it a billion times before. Even replacing the latch assembly isnt hard to do. Good Luck
  5. I know the ATF trick..I used run 1 quart AFT and the rest 10w-40 in my 88 GL and also i my Justy. I would leave it in for the duration..until my next oil change. But neither my GL or Justy had the noisey HLAs...had other stuff going on with those.
  6. Well..my mind went RIGHT to the gutter on this one....geesh its been a long time.
  7. Thanks Gary! I believe my ticking is coming from my right rear cylinder mainly (thats where I get the most build up on my plugs when I change them..just did second set back in Sept) But its an all over kinda thing just the worst on that back HLA. I have a strong feeling the mickey mouse gasket is either sucked in or shot but am trying to hold of on replacing that till I bribe ...oops get some help with a timing belt change and all that goes along with it.I have a new oil pump if needed. I do get good pressure and from what I have seen here I have slightly above average....I never drop to 0 at idle). I have been inside my motor a bit and know its pretty yucky gummy in there. I have taken my oil fill tube off and cleaned it..needed a jackhammer to get some of it out. I think I will just go ahead and change the oil and filter anyway..I changed it in Sept when I did some ignition work so its due.Plus my neighbor is begging me to change the oil in her toyota.Better safe than sorry. I just added the MMO to top off anyway since I was not quite a quart low last friday.
  8. Sounds to me like you have a bad connection somewhere..could be from the battery since you say it is knocking around. The schmucks at Circuit City half the time dont know their heads from holes in the ground. You might have a bad ground somewhere or even another connecter not properly insultated and shorting itself out against something else. Hard to say without seeing it. BTW I am an electrician by trade and I specialize in wiring. If it wasnt dark out right now I would run out and look at the wiring of mine in my Loyale and look for possible "problem" spots. I have an aftermarket JVC CD stereo in mine (a huge 200 watts of thumpin power) and I prefer to just rewire instead of using the stock wiring...its usually a lower gauge wire since the stock stereos are maybe 80 watts. The aftermarket stereos do look good at night..but this makes it look even better....LOL......NEONS!!!
  9. I am actually afraid to put a hitch on the back of my Loyale just to tow a single rail trailer with a dirtbike on it. The car is just so light...a strong wind about blows me off the road and half the time it doesnt want to stop itself let alone anything else:)
  10. I am trying the MMO trick on my TOD in my Loyale. The first day with it the tick was actually abit worse..is this normal?? But the past 2 mornings it hasn't been bad at all..and its been cold and frosty. In fact tis morning Bucky was sounding new again...nice and quiet. Do you guys think I should change the oil this weekend to get out whatever the MMO has loosened up and refill with a fresh batch? You know ..do the whole thing new filter change and all. Trying to find a good excuse to play with my new floor jack:grin:. Thanks in advance!!
  11. Paul...so that would be in about 2 and a half weeks right?? Gonna need a refill on my candle crack by then.Just remember to wear thermals and gloves and we can get a bunch more of those goodies moved around.
  12. I agree..its not worth a whole lot. When I bought my 92 FWD 5spd Loyale which is pretty much rust free (just some minor around the windshield and has 2 other small spots I have to fix that werent there when I bought it).It didnt have any leaks and it came with service records from the previous owner..I only paid $600 for it ....and that was from a used car dealer. My 88 GL wagon I got for $500.....back in 96 and my 90 Justy I got for $500 in 98. Thats the biggest shame about these things....they arent worth a whole lot unless they are pristine with super low mileage.Only plus is yours being 4WD..the FWD ones are next to worthless.Sentimental value though is a different story.
  13. I musta skimmed over the no spark from the coil thingy....maybe your coil is bad.. start simple ..go from there. also check the wires going to it all..could have a broken one or bad corrosion somewhere along the line. I bought a car once for $25 (it was worth alot more) due to a similar problem and all it was..was a broken wire on the coil. Good Luck!!
  14. Could be a broken timing belt.with 98,000 miles it may have never been replaced yet. You are lucky cause you have a non-interference motor.
  15. NNIIICCEEE!! And what a background! If that was my shot I would blow it up and frame it!
  16. It was great to meet you Mary! We have got to hang again..And our idea of attaching the Brat jump seats to your Hummer skid plate would still make the most awesome sled!!. Thanks for the compliments on my dreamcatchers. Check out the Marketplace in about 10-15 minutes .I finished my "secret"dreamcatcher and am getting ready to put it up for sale over there. Mary?? Are you now addicted to Melis's candle crack now too??
  17. Melis...That sounds about right ..3 weeks.. And thats a good idea..we should dress warm, wear gloves, bring sharpies and boxes and spend a day helping Paul get all that stuff organized. I personally think that the least we can do for him since he has been so good to all of us. And Thanks Dave for the ride in the SVX!!!! :slobber: Me want one!!! That was fun. Never been in a Soob with anything bigger than my EA82.Made my ride home in Bucky seem rather long and slow! Gonna go grab something to eat (ya'll know I dont keep food in my house LOL) then going to start my "secret" project;). It was great meeting Mary and Tim, what a pair ..too fun, and Jessie...hope that little heater helped you at least alittle bit.Sorry for the anti-freeze smell I am sure was oozing from it. Oh and Melis..starting my next order for candle crack! Should be finished with my "secret" project around 1:00 will post a pic in the Marketplace for all to drool over.
  18. Yup..no sushi for me either....I told someone about that last night and they didnt believe me..they actually want me to take a pic of it to prove its real. I just checked the weather and it says no rain till tomorrow. So if I can get rid of this migraine (I suffer from severe ones frequently) I will be there. Trying to think if I need anything for Bucky so I can help Paul out. Melis if you coming I will bring a couple dreamcatchers for you...I have some I need to finish up today.Lately they have been selling as fast as I can make them.
  19. I just got in from doing some shopping.Bought a new jack and picked up the Marvels Mystery oil for my Tick of Death. Dumb question of the day...How long should I leave it in for..regular oil change time or should I run the car for a week or two then change it out?? See???? Like I said ..Dumb question right?
  20. You guys are right...this is a great group of ppl.Newbies are welcomed into the club with open arms and made to feel like they belong here..which was so helpful to me personally. The knowledge of this group is unsurpassed and noone is made to feel stupid even when a simple question is asked. I know I couldnt believe the ppl who were willing to help me out when I was feeling overwhelmed with the problems with my baby (Bucky) both with parts and thier time. When Moosens, Brus Brother, and Scoobadooba were under my car trying to hang the exhaust it about made me want to cry.People usually dont want to help me out specially when it comes to the car thing since they know I dont mind working on them myself but seem to not care that I dont know how to do alot of things. You guys dont enjoy seeing someone fall on thier face and that means you all have big hearts and thats rare in this day. And for someone like me that all needs to be repaid back. By that I mean I will do my best to return any favor in anyway I can no matter how small it is. You guys are the best...And being a true Soob nut is a good thing...good cars make good ppl in my book.
  21. I am always game!! Guess a shower would help that though:grin: .Sure beats sitting home alone all the time...Plus I love hanging with others with the same interests since it seems we are so few and far between. Good friends, good fun,,and I always seem to learn something new. I just need to get it in my schedule cause I have a truck to do some paint, rust, and body work on if the person ever gets the stuff needed!
  22. I had a 90 Justy...it was the only Soob I wasnt to happy with..Bought it with 80,000 miles on it...motor went at 88,000 ..couldnt find a replacement motor anywhere close to PA.So I gave it to some kids to finish it off out in the woods.
  23. It helps out alot if you have the tires good and warm...the stickier they are the better the launch (X drag racer at Maple Grove Raceway in PA).The rest is just practice. I havent dragged in years but when I did I had a big heavy old Mach1 Mustang with a 428 Cobra Jet with blower...5 speed. Its all about practice and knowing the best shift points on your car.Once you get the launchdown ..then you want to work on reaction time. But sticky tires is the key...smoke them good before the launch!!Sometimes too by adding a heavy duty clutch you can get more grip with less slippage. Good Luck!! keep practicing.
