Brat spotted in MN on 35w
mschafe replied to mschafe's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
It was the first one i've seen in Minnesota. It was blue. This was coming back from Pine City, so it was further up north than the cities. -
Had the license plate 'DaBrat' on the back. Curious if its anyone on here. Seemed to be in pretty good shape for an older MN car. Matt
-
Allright, more details on the car... Its a 2wd Auto, with non-air suspension (which is fine, as they seem to have lots of problems). I'm going to give 'er a good test drive tomorrow, and then i'll make my decision. He said $800 firm, but he also said it may need new valve cover seals if thats a huge deal or not. Matt

Thanks for the link.. that has most of the info i'm looking for. Matt
-
Yeah, I know you got an XT.. that's the one I was gonna buy! LOL.. anyways, turbo's are fun, but having an H6 would be interesting, as i've never owned or driven an H6 Suby. If those ones at Han's have good windshields, then i'm pretty sure i'm going to get this one. Thanks, Matt

I have the opportunity to get an XT6 for $800. Has some rust, partially cracked windshield, but the guy said it runs/drives well. What's the specs on that engine, and is this a decent deal? I really want to get back into Subaru's after selling my GL. Thanks, Matt

I have another car, but it's my baby, and its garaged for the winter ('83 RX7). By the way, I wish I had a Brat, but I have an '85GL (which is good, because Brat's are very rare and I would hate to see one suffering). I just wish there was a big heated garage somewhere I could use to work on this thing... ugh. Matt -
Just a quick question... what would the transmission fluid levels have to do with the engine burning coolent? Matt
-
No.. no bubbles in coolent or anything that would suggest a headgasket, so its probably the intake gasket. I need to find someone with a heated garage so I can work on this thing.
-
That's a possibility, but i'm so sick of working on this car. Its so hard to get at stuff on the engine, and its the middle of winter and I have no place to work on it. I'll probably keep driving it because its my only car.

My Suby i'm afraid may be on its last legs. It's starting to burn large amounts of coolent (white smoke, smells like coolent)... mainly on startup after sitting, but lately its been doing it for longer until the engine fully warms up. There isn't any coolent in oil or the other way around, but I can't think of what else it could be besides one of the headgaskets.

Ok.. I figured I can make it at noon for a little bit at least. I'd have to leave by 1pm to make it to work in time, but it shouldn't be a problem. -

I'm losing coolant - head gasket??
mschafe replied to phishy75's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I'm having almost the same exact problem with my '85 na EA82. Burns a cloud of coolent smoke (I believe) on startup after sitting for a while, then its great. No oil in coolent or the other way around. Can't figure this one out. -

IF we end up doing a bit of off-roadin, and i'm insane enough to actually tag along (which would be fun, of course), is there going to be someone there to pull my 2wd GL outta the snow and mud when I get stuck? Lol.. My cars a beater, so I really don't care what happens to it. -

Hmm.. Isn't SAT the 1st of January? In any case, that works the best because its one of the days I actually don't have to work for a change. If its on the 2nd, I can't make it Matt -
Boost sensor on a carbed EA82?
mschafe replied to mschafe's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Anyone know? I'm really curious.... -
I was picking through my vacuum lines yesterday looking for leaks, and came across a small black box on the passenger side fender that says 'Boost Sensor' on it. It has a vaccum hose connected to the intake and another electrical connection. Now the car is a carbed ea82, so I can't figure out why they'd put a boost sensor in there unless it's universal for all the engine types.

One other thing.... any of you Minnesota guys have a spare alternator sitting around I could buy off you? Mine's on the way out i'm pretty sure, as my volt gauge is pegged at 18 most of the time, and the CHG warning light is on. This is for an EA82. Thanks, Matt
