  1. It almost a waste of time writing about the pros and cons of using a different grade. In retrospect, when you buy a car of $30K or more what's a few $$$$ extra a year for the additional octane? Howerver, that is a personal preference more than anything else. This is one of those topics that is discussed from time to time.
  2. I didn't read the post correctly. I thought you meant a 95 legacy. The EJ22 is a pig on the AWD stock Legacy. On a different body, that's a horse of a different color. You also didn't say it was a new engine.
  3. Jon, I am sure that some may have a problem with this statement but here I go. Why would you want to spend any money on a 9 year old? Even if you do the work yourself you still need to purchase the parts and at the end of the day you still have a 95 Subaru Legacy. When you fix all the oil leaks and the gas sensors that's a great car to get you from point A to point B and back. You can't ask for more from a family car.
  4. If you reset the codes by taking out the battery for a minute or so does that do the trick?
  5. I agree. I have a 95 Legacy with the same symptoms and it was the coolant temp sensor.
  6. You need to take the door panel out and inspect the wiring for shorts. You can also bypass the switch as it may also be the problem. Unfortunately if you can't visually see the short or the switch is good, you may need to do find the problem the old fashion way, with an ohm meter and a technical schematic.
  7. I have a 95 Legacy and wished it had a V6. When considering a car with regular gas vs premium, you need to figure out how many miles you drive and then calculate the cost between having a car with regular vs premium. You may find that the difference in cost is little. The cost of gas is more than we would like to pay but the difference between the grade is only about 20 cents. On an average of 12000 miles for 18 mpg car, that's only $133.00 extra for the premium gas. If I am off the mark with my calculation, please respond.
  8. Why don't you clear the code and drive the car. If the engine light does not come on, then you are fine. Why do people jump into conclusion so fast?
  9. It's amazing how ignorant and close minded some people are. No one said Subarus are bad cars. But I continue to see people who compare these vehicles to luxury cars and they are not, look at sales, customer satisfaction. I am going to leave it at that. Josh, don't blame me for enticing a riot. There is a difference between someone who's expressing an opinion and someone who is ignorant about the topic. You decide who's who.
  10. I have a 95 Legacy LS and I used to drive with the lights on at all times. One day one of the headlites stopped working and I found that both plastic connectors were burned from the excess heat. The replacement cost from Subaru was about 400.00. I did a quick fix and only use the lights when needed. These lights are not running lights, they are not designed to be on all times and you do not get an insurance discount since they are not considered running lights. The great feature is that when the key is off, the lights go off.
  11. You guys need to stop comparing Subs to Acuras, Lexus', Infinities, Volvos, Audis, and cars in that class. Subs are great cars, but they are not high end. They are nitch cars. Why do you think Subaru decided to build all their cars with AWD? This was done so they would be at a class of their own and for a while, there were no or few competitions. I have a 95 Legacy LS, great car but I would never compare it to my Acura, different car. I can't even compare it to the Audi AWD, different class. So enjoy what you have and don't compare it with others.
