Unfortunately, any lift that drops the sub will require the brake lines and steering shaft extended. Ive not done it because of this. None of the kits Ive seen here address these items.
If you're only doing a 2 inch lift there is no need to extend your steering shaft or your brake lines. I have a 6 inch lift and just clipped the line holders and tied them up with bailing wire, works flawlessl, It's not addressed because it's very easy to do yourself
ADF is just around the corner from you (Sandy, Oregon) has good competeing prices and he's awesome, 100% recommend him -

If you're trying to press the piston back into the caliper you're not going to get anywhere. Our calipers are twist release calipers meaning that you have to grab a pair of pliers, grab the little middle nub and twist clockwise or counter clockwise

Overkill? The mounts are 1/4 inch 2x2... The rest is 1/8 wall 2x2. The bumper is 8 pounds heavier than the stock bumper. I politely disagree that it will affect handling. It sits 4 inchs closer to the car than the stock bumper. So if you do a pretty simple weight and balance calculation... I'm a helicopter mechanic...
Stock bumper 40 pounds x 24 inches equals a balance moment of 960 in stock form.
My bumper 48 pounds x 20 inches from the wheels equals a balance moment of... Oh my, 960 also.
So you arguement against the weight and handling is kinda mute. I don't just build stuff. I do the math.
HAH, that was a beautifully crafted burn sir

That appears to be an OEM accessory winch bumper/brush guard minus the winch. The topper is an excellent addition though not factory. None were. It does however appear to be the very rare trim mounted topper which mounts on the bed trim with a rubber seal, keeping it off the paint on the side of the bed. I have one on one of my Brats. The rims are aftermarket and very rare now. Good luck finding center caps. I doubt it has had a 5 speed swap. That is an aftermarket shifter knob. Too bad some jacka** hacked up the center console. Good luck finding one in grey. Been looking forever. The steering wheel is factory for '84-'87. That is a VERY nice, low mileage Brat and finds like that are very few and far between. Please... DO NOT drill holes or make mods that cannot be undone. Leave it alone. If you want one to mod, I'll trade you my '87 in almost as good of shape, with higher miles plus cash! That's how serious I am about NOT screwing with this find you have. It's yours to do as you will, but modding a Brat of this condition would be nothing short of a travesty.
let him do what he wants, no point in being a sour puss. Hubs are easy to find Skishop

No 5-speed D/R from the Factory. Correct.
But Above pic shows 5-speed shift knob, so someone either swap the trans or they cheated and just used the knob for "Looks".
HAH! i didnt even notice, i was too busy oogling the body

I think the '85 Brat already has a 5-speed. Nice ride... either way. I need to start checking out some barns... ha!
i dont think they ever put the D/R 5 speed in these.

dude!!!! that thing is beautiful, how much did you score it for? as far as swaps go, a 5 speed swap wouldn't hurt, our man Jerry ( Bratsrus) has a sweet kit that keeps everything looking stock for around 100, and then there's the good old ej22 swap which a few of our members have parts for, http://andersondesign-fab.com/ and http://www.sjrlift.com/ , if you go for a lift, which both of those sites have, there's nothing wrong with a nice 6 lug redrill, and last but not least if you happen to have a gl-10 laying around, you can do the ever loved rear disc brake swap which is somewhat painless. I'll search around and get you some links for all of these, and again congrats on that BRAT.

Alright so the legacy is about 5.5 inches wider(2.75 on each side) someone took the crossmember so I couldn't measure that out, but that doesn't seem to bad, nothing rolled fenders and a nice offset couldn't fix

DISCLAIMER: If you're just going to say please don't chop up this car/this is going to be too hard you just shouldn't do it/really anything that isn't constructive advise on what I should do, please don't say anything at all
So I currently have a 78 wagon in almost perfect condition that I would love to turn into a sleeper, I have a connection for a 1st gen turbo legacy that I'm going to strip for parts and I have a couple questions on this;
1.since I want awd would it be absolutely impossible to swap ej crossmember, arms, blah blah blah so that I wouldn't have to make custom axles + I would gain the strength of ej axles and have a decently wide stance, I know I need to get under my car and really check spoob out but I want know if some has done it before
2. No matter what I want an ej tranny, so should I find a 1st gen legacy 5 speed or should I upgrade to a 6 speed, I'm pretty sure I'm going to have to give it a slight lift/crossmember drop to fit this under the car though, which is fine since I want some wider racing tires so I'm not slipping every time I gun it.
3. Is a turbo swap any different from a base ej22 swap, cut everything that isn't in the engine bay correct?
Anyway, I'm super excited to begin this
-
whoops i meant extending the steering shaft and dropping the x-member down to match the lift
-
from what i've read an extension is not necessary, but it will lengthen the life of your axles. if you just switch from an ea81 knuckle to an ea82 knuckle that should give you an extra inch though
-
oh my god, it's just so good. i hate how much i want one of these beauties
-
Also the reason it doesn't have performance mods is because it's not a performance engine, if you want more power with good economy then the only reasonable answer would be to ej it.
Super chargers destroy gasoline
Turbo chargers limit your engines life span
Taking it to an engine shop for a power build costs roughly around the same as a swap yet still has nowhere near the power
My 2 cents are if you want real power with good economy and reliability, ej your car. Also if you're saying all off is before driving an ej'd ea series car, I would maybe go ask around and feel just how awesome it is

Sumoco....in future just scroll past the thread. It's easy to do.
The closest thread like this one is "To swap for EJ22 or not to swap" which is about a member that has a spare EJ22 engine that also needed work. I'm talking about reasons to keep your EA.
EJing an EA car has, yes, been done to the death. Think its time to wave the EA flag and promote its positives.
The EA's demise is for several reasons. I'm about seeking ways to fix those hurdles with this thread and keep the EA. I don't for example understand why the EA isn't developed more by small operators and sold power kits. Apart from the restrictive manifold (which with those flanges can be overcome) there are restrictive heads, also overcome by the making and sale of different heads. From then on its all about ignition development, cam, and other improvements not unlike other conventional engines.
Perhaps I could have named this thread "strictly improving performance of your EA engine". But then I'd get "just EJ it" and that's my point.
No reason to be a jackass tweety, was just checking. Also you should scroll back a page and look at jeseks proper reply
