  1. No problem, I kinda thought that was the case. Anyways thanks for the input. This is what I thought as well. Anyone have recommendations on brands on coilovers? I for sure want the height adjustable along with the adjustable dampening.
  2. Um its not coils, as in coil springs, that Im asking about. Its adjustable coilovers. Im not interested in doing the Legacy, or Forester strut lift. Just wondering if anyone here might know from experience if taller tires will clear the coil spring on coilovers due to no large spring perch.
  3. I have a couple of questions about adjustable coilovers for a 97 IMP OBS. The first question is can I run taller tires with adjustable coilovers? Without the stock coil spring perch it seems possible. Im talking like 215/75/15. I want to run these tires in the winter and for the summer I want to run something like 215/55/17. The other question is can the vehicle be raised with adjustable coilovers? Again Im talking like an inch. Any advice on this? I have read through some of the Impreza lift topics on here and on dirty impreza. Im just looking for a different approach than the Legacy OB strut lift. The idea of being able to raise and lower the vehicle is nice.
  4. Update: The 5MT does fit. I had to convince them. Anyhow it is great!! Its unbelievable how much better the car drives now. For one acceleration seems to have improved. A while back it put up a post titled :Whats holding me back" Well I now believe it was the trans. Plus I replaced the old worn mounts with the Megan Racing. Driving the car is like night and day now. Thanks for all the input so I could convince Subaru it would fit.
  5. Hey there, I love this question. I have a 97 2.2 single port heads......with a lot of mods. A lightweight crank pulley, by Grimmspeed. Also by Grimspeed are phenolic spacers 8MM. There is an MSD coil mod, and go with Magnecor plug wires. My opinion is the single port heads are just as good if not better than the dual. Only one cylinder's exhaust valves open at the same time. I have ported mine and dropped in some delta regrind cams. On E-Bay look for a seller called Subie4X4. You can get some great quality Equal length headers for the single port. I have them and it made a huge difference. I run 2.25" exhaust also, all the way back. K&N filter w/ a cold air stock box. A Walboro 255 LPH fuel pump woke it up a bit too. These are just a few thing I have done to my OBS and it would take my 97 Legacy 2.5.
  6. Thanks for the input everyone!! This is what I thought as well. I did my research before buying this 5MT. Ill call them first thing in the morning.
  7. I have a 97 Impreza OBS with a 5MT. The bearings are going out at 275,xxx. I got a replacement 5MT from a 2000 Impreza OBS with low miles. Subaru dealership is installing and I got a call this morning saying that it doesnt fit. Technician says that the starter only has one bolt hole and the bell housing wont line up. Says the bolt holes on the housing are of by a quarter of an inch. I did a lot of research, including advice here on this forum, and everything I found and everyone that gave advice said it would fit. So whats the deal here? Is there something Im missing? Anyone with some knoweledge want to chime in? Im now looking at having to buy another transmission through Subaru. Its expensive and I have not had my car for over a week now!!!!! Super frustrating!!!!!!!
  8. I already have an intake mod Ill drive it for a bit and see how it goes. I got a cheapish brace on E-Bay. Perhaps a better brand like a Megan, or Cusco would fit better.
  9. I think that having that "shield" removed may reduce some drag on the car. Air going into the scoop while driving will pass over the top of the torque box instead of just getting stuck or forced through the little foam passages.
  10. Hey, so I got a front strut brace from E-Bay, and......it doesn't quite fit! The hood doesnt close all the way. Go figure! Anyways I got it to fit by removing the "shield"? under the hood scoop. Is there any reason this is not a good idea? It looks like the torque box and the strut brace sit low enough that they wont be damaged if anything passed through the scoop while driving. But maybe there is something I didnt consider.
  11. Yes the input shaft bearing! Thats what I was thinking. Thats the problem with one that is in the car. It happened right after the new clutch and flywheel. That was about 10k ago.
  12. . Yea for sure! I'm pretty easy on my current 5 speed. I was more wondering if there is any bearings that are easy to replace, or something that may start wearing out soon.
  13. Not so much huge amounts of power, but maybe more than the 2.2 tranny is good for. Probably going with a hi comp setup. Full exhaust, and just about every mod one can do on a 2.2.
  14. I have a replacement 5MT for the OBS. It has 130,000 on it. Is there anything that I should, or could do to it before it goes in the car. Currently it is just sitting in the garage. It's from a 99 impreza 2.2 and I'm building my current 2.2 and a little concerned that I might stress it and break something.
  15. Hey thanks!! You rock! Its weird though cause I actually got to this website yesterday and I didnt come up. Anyways thanks again!
  16. I also posted in the wanted section. If anyone out there has a Tenzo R Mach 10 17X7 in black, please PM me. Thanks!
  17. I have a question about where to find a single replacement aftermarket wheel? I bought 3 Tenzo R Mach 10 17" rims for $35. I have searched, looked on E-Bay, Amazon. I cant seem to find them anywhere. Maybe these models are no longer manufactured? Anyone know of a website that sells used aftermarket wheels?
  18. I did the MSD coil mod on my 97 OBS. I love it!! I also went with Magnecor wires. Better sound, MPG, and a little smoother acceleration. A couple of weeks ago it started missing and got codes. I thought it was MSD coil so I put the stock one back on. There was a noticeable loss in power. Turned out to be the pigtail, so I put the MSD back on and its all better now. So yea its a great little mod!! Do it!!
  19. This has nothing to do with your misfire codes but, I saw a slight MPG increase of about 2-3 after changing the front and rear diff fluid. I used the Subaru STI diff fluid.
  20. You can find it here. https://www.dropbox.com/s/1ia75cro4n1deou/TransmissionIDChart_Public.pdf
  21. What kind of compression/power/torque would I get with this setup? Im currently using the ECU from a 97 2.5 to run the 2.2 that is in the car. Would I need to run the ECU for the 2.0 and would that plug in, or will I need a complete harness too?
  22. Oil pressure? I had an old Buick and the oil pump seized, there was no knocking or noises to indicate no pressure. Same symptom as you. Wouldnt rev, could only drive about 2 mph. Took it to friends shop. It took a while but we found a chunk of metal had got past the pickup screen and seized the pump. We replaced it and the car ran better than ever. Just a thought. Good luck.
  23. I dont have any info on this but Im definitely interested. I have a 97 OBS build going on myself. Im interested in seing the reply's!!
