Will a longer resonator quiet down the exhaust or just the raspy sound? Im gonna be adding a fresh long block with ported heads and deltas soon. I suppose it will be even louder then. I would go with the STI muffler but Im not sure if it will increase the backpressure since it will probably be quieter than my Magnaflow.

Yea I currently have a Magnaflow muffler on the car. I like the muffler, but with the rear cat delete and the stock resonator, headers and hi flow cat its a bit too loud. I'm looking at an sti muffler and resonator for 50 bucks. Just wondering about the flow of these. I want the car a bit quieter, but still deep. I'm at 2.25 pipe all the way back to the stock resonator. I'm gonna go go 2.25 back from there once I figure out what resonator to go with.

Which resonator

Is there anybody....out there? -
I need some advice/knowledge on resonators for my 97 OBS. I had a plugged rear cat and replaced it with a 2.5 inch test pipe. The car runs much better!! But now it is very loud with the headers, high flow front cat and Magnaflow muffler. The stock resonator is very short, maybe 12 inches top. I want to run 2.5 inch from there back to the muffler. Will a stock WRX cat back work? Is it 2.5 inch? I dont want the car to be stock sound, just a bit quieter and less raspy.

This is what Im thinking....I have a pair of 2.2 heads that are ported, new valves, springs, seals, phenolic spacers and Deltas. Will these heads bolt up to the 2.0 block? Id probably be running small boost sometime in the future. Is this a good idea, or no? What kind of problems might I be looking at? Mainly looking for a short block that I can rebuild and use my 2.2 heads and intake manifold with.

Grimspeed phenolic spacers. Lightweight crank pulley. Grounding kit. Exhaust work. MSD coil w/ Magnecor wires. Remove any un-needed weight. -
engine MY

So the valves will be the same no matter the year? What about the 99 2.2? Does that engine have the same valves? Just curious. These heads do have the solid lash adjusters. Cool. As long as the valves and other parts are the same im good to move forward. Thanks for the info Fairtax!! -
Hey everyone Im back. Had a problem with connecting to the site. Couldnt access for the last few months. Anyways I bought a used EJ22 that is supposed to be a 97 MY. It does have single port heads, but that doesnt mean its a 97. Im rebuilding the heads and need a couple new intake valves, valve seals, and springs. Already have the Deltas I took the numbers off the block, from the drivers side where it bolts to the trans, and called the dealership. They couldnt tell me and they even called subaru and still couldnt tell me. So how do I determine the year? I need to get these parts so I can finish the heads. Any help would be appreciated!

2.2 valve job
Aluxes replied to Aluxes's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVX
Yea I'm rebuilding the heads. Deltas, New springs, New seals, and I lapped all the other valves. But now I think I may just take to a machine shop and have a 3 angle job done. These heads are going on a block that is getting rebuilt too so I don't want any problems. Thanks for all the input. -

Alright cool! Thanks for that! Do you think the guides are ok? -
Hey everyone I have question on a valve job. Doing a valve job on a pair of 2.2 heads, 97 single port. Both intake valves in # 3 combustion chamber are slightly bent. The piston tops have no indication the they came in contact with the valves. I'm wondering what would cause this? Obviously these two are being replaced, but I still need to grind the seats. Since I can't use the bent valves to grind the seats will using the new valves to grind the seats be ok? Plus would the bent valves have caused any issues with the guides? I'm installing some deltas, and putting these heads on a rebuilt block so I want to make sure its gonna be all good. Thanks for any advice!
