  1. Hi, These guys helped me to do that same swap (2.5 to 2.2) and it made a new car out of it. Their info is good and the swap should be able to be handled by and good mechanic. thanks again guys
  2. I am changing the axle out of a 98 forrester (drivers side ) and had a few q's 1. by pulling the bolts off the front knuckle will i need to have it realined? 2. do i need to do both axles at once? Thanks for any light you may be able to shine on the subject
  3. this may seem like a dumb thing to look at but look at the wires coming from the speed sensor to the main harnass. had a 98 forrester have the same type of intermitant problems and the fix was a short in the speed sensor pigtail. I am still not sure how that would do it but it fixed it. the car would drive along just fine then run out of power and die when you pulled off the road then start right up.
  4. I Just performed a 2.5 to 2.2 swap form an older to new car(obd1 to obdII) (Thanks usmb for the help) and thought that i would do a code check just for fun. the car runs great and has no driveabilty problems. Popped to codes- 1:egr code (not on the new engine so not worried about that one) 2:p106(Map sensor rng./perform)- the car is running a MAF, I thought that cars ran one or the other and was just wondering is this car had both for some reason and if it has both what is the correct vacuum signal to hook into(the manifold or the throttle body)
  5. wee haa the engine fired right up on the first try and purred like a kitten. took it for a drive yesterday down to napa and almost got stuck right off the bat(stupid winter storms). lol it ran very well with no drivablity problems that i can tell other that the check engine light is on (no egr so is going to stay on). To any one else doing this swap you will also need the alt and the ac compresser off the newer 2.5 motor as the r134a compressor will not fit in the r12 compressor bracket. just need to adjust the coolant and install the block heater cord (it was -25F here this morning) I want to thank you all for your help.
  6. k was putting on the new clutch this morning and torquing them dowm and bang the first one snapped i am used to american v8s and thought that the cutch would be around 65lbs that is not the case i got the bolt out of the flywheel quite easily but am now searching for the right spec.
  7. Thank you will be putting it in the car on thrusday so hopefully it all works.
  8. ok guys I have just completed swapping everthing over between the two IM including the the throttle body and all the sensors on the block as well just need the specs to tighten down the IM again could anyone out there help me with the numbers and also the seqence. thank you once more for your help it has been invaluable
  9. k i have been looking at the manifolds and they look like they will swap but i am finding a cam sensor that goes on the block that will not swap any thoughts Sorry feel very dumb was just looking at the harness plugs on the back removerd and found them to be identical so just swapped them over am now starting on the maniforld swap will keep you aprised thanks for you help so far
  10. Hi guys, I am new to subarus but not to cars and have some q's that i was hoping you could help me with? I am working on a 1998 Forrester with a 2.5 and bad motor, and a 92 legacy with a 2.2 and am in the process of swapping in the 2.2 into the 2.5. i am assuming that i will need the ecu and harness form the obd I and put it into the odb II car is this a doable thing or am i asking for trouble?
