  1. NEVER MIND...........I SEE WHAT HAPPENED.....YOUR OTHER MESSAGE IS ON A DIFFERENT THREAD.......I MUST BE FEAKKKIN' OUT... THIS 50 SOMETHING IS KILLLIN ME!!!!!!!!!!!
  2. Miles, This is Gary in Cleveland, I think I messed up your last reply. SORRY!! I hit a wrong button on this 'puter and BAM, it was gone..........Your message was about meeting somewhere between Sidney and Columbus, Ohio. If you remember anything please post it again. I really am sorry. Gary
  3. Just a word to the wise... I have a '98 2.5RS Impreza production date 6-97 Serial # 400212 however Serial # 400011 is here in Cleveland and the production date is 2-97 yet it is titled 1998. Always double check the VIN code for the correct year of production. Gary
  4. Sorry, Didn't mean to mess that one up, but BoBBrumby made two statements. the first not related to the second. I was responding only to the second sentence. LOL Gary
  5. To your 'door' question, The answer is YES they are the same, also the little hatchback has the same doors. As for calling this model a 'coupe' it's a bit misleading as some years Subaru called it a coupe, but other years it it called a 2 door hardtop. A 'real' coupe is like a '87 RX three door or an XT. The '80-'85 (yes there was an '85 2dr hardtop, before the XT coupe got here) 2 door hardtop has a rear quarter window that rolls down and a real 'coupe', the side rear quarter window is stationary or just flips out at the back edge (like the '80-'87 hatchback). Gary
  6. This would be cool except when I worked at the local Mazda dealer RX owners did nothing but complain about the need for three cats to get those things to pass emissions. Maybe that's a mute point on this site, but where I come fromwe still have to keep the air clean every two years. Don't suppose any of you all have that kind of problem out there in those beautiful mountains where pollution does'nt reach that high:rolleyes:. Gary
  7. jackasses. Holy cow. :-\ So, They didn't even change the oil for you........HAHAHAHAHOHOHOHO:brow: What a crock.....Gary
  8. I remember putting a yard of gravel in my '85 Brat, front end lifted soo much, had to engage the 4wd just to get home, was barely able to steer good thing I didn't go far (maybe 3 miles) ps. one yard of gravel weighs about 2500lbs, what was the load capacity on our Brats? .........Gary
  9. The CD player will not eject the CD disk itself. How can I get the player to eject the disk? Thank you for your time and cooperation. I look forward to hearing from you guys. I had the exact prob. with my CD player in my '98 2.5RS. Sad to say, I had to let my favorite:rolleyes: Subie dealer remove the CD player and send it to a local repair shop. After contacting SOA the dealer paid the $150 for the repair. Gary ps. The 'stuck' CD was never the same.
  10. Boy, I would be in the OWNERS face, so fast he'd think Mr. Grinch had arrived at his door. No wonder they call them Stealerships! Start raising hell with public relations at SOA. Whatta bunch of Scrooges ... Merry Christmas anyhow. SOA Already knows me real well. As for getting in the owner's face, you're not gon'a believe this but we grew up one street away from each other in the '50s/'60s and I purchased my very first new car from him in 1973 (which I still have). And over the last 20 years I have been an employee of his @ two different times and I don't think he really wants to see me again. To top that off, now he ownes all the Subaru dealerships within a a reasonable distance from my home. So now the word goes out to his three dealerships that 'you know who' is being a pain in the A$$ again..... MY POINT TO THIS THREAD IS HOWEVER, ANY 'RU WITH A DEALER INSTALLED TOW HITCH SHOULD BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR A FAULTY HITCH WIRE HARNESS IF YOU HAVE A PROBLEM WITH PARKING/BRAKE LIGHTS ACTING UP. Gary:)
  11. If not, tell her to forget it and deal with it when she gets the car home. It won't kill a healthy battery in four hours. Ya'all are gona love this one:rolleyes: On her way home yesterday she decided to drop by our favorite:rolleyes: Subie dealership, after 2 hours they determined that the wire harness from the SOA trailer hitch (that they had installed last Sept) had shorted out. Of course it is 'out of warranty' by 90 days.........Estimate for repair........$199 and change......HAHAHA HOHOHO.... I didn't pay that much for the whole hitch......MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYBODY
  12. Are you certain she's flicking the right switch? It's really amazing how many folks get this semi-invisible rocker mixed up with the hazard flasher switch. Make sure she understands *which* switch, and cycles it once, then checks her parking lights again. If not, tell her to forget it and deal with it when she gets the car home. It won't kill a healthy battery in four hours. Yes, she's been driving 'rus longer than me (since '86). Thanks, I kind of told her the same thing. It's just that we've now got 7" new snow and she works 20 miles from home. Thanks
  13. Anybody had this happen? Wife just called me, fellow employee noticed her parking lights on in the parking lot (car is not running, it is locked and off). I told her to go out and check the rocker switch on the top of the steering wheel (between wheel and instrument panel) she called me on her cell from the car and told me the switch was off so I told her to click it a couple of times and double check. Answer was 'lights still on no matter what position switch is in'. HELP please:)
  14. Thanks again, and no harm intended to actual Gremlins:D NONE TAKEN! Gary in Cleveland:grin:
  15. thanks, i'm headed your way...akron this weekend. tow dolly it is. Just be carefull if your coming across I-80 thru PA I've made that trip 4 times this past summer and some of those 'hills' were a little hazardous. Oh yea.....It's snowing again! YESSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!! Gary in Cleveland
  16. if anyone sees any good tow dolly deals...think grossgary (Gary Gross) and send me a PM. not really seeing much of anything under 500.00. Gary, the dolly way is the best. I bought a used one 2 years ago for $450 and its just the ticket. I have 'towed' my classic AMC (can I say those two words together) at least 2500 miles over the last year and a half. When my daughter 'totaled' her '95 Impreza Outback I got the front wheels on the dolly and removed the rear section of the driveshaft (took about 1/2 hour to disconnect) and it followed me home with no trouble. Gary in Cleveland:grin:
  17. looking to tow an XT6, anyone know if a tow bar will work on an XT6? or how i can find out before i go buy a tow bar. i've only used a tow dolly, so i don't know how they work or what they fasten too. Ok, so you know all about what not to do, good. We had many XT's and XT6's up on lifts when I worked at the local dealership and I don't think the bumper or the frame rails had spots to attach brackets (you'd have to have them made anyway). I was able to make an adapter for my Gen 2 Brat and modify the tiedown hooks so I could run a solid rod between the two and thru the holes in my towbar originally used on a '69 Olds 442 (same as Chevy Malibu, GTO, etc). My biggest concern would be the design of the plastic bumper cover kind of has a little spoiler molded in, so to get below it would put the towbar awefully close to the ground. Maybe if you take the bumper cover off it might be ok. Gary
  18. Yup. It's fun to be out mixing it up w/ plow trucks and jeeps in my Sube! Ihave to apologize to everybody, When I left for work this morn it was 17 and cloudy. I just got back from lunch and it's 35 and sunny. WHAT IS GOING ON! Wait, someone said that before. Anyway, a little sun sure does a number on our snow around here. I think we're down to about 4-5". Still can't wait for t'o'm'ro!!!! Gary
  19. Sorry, Brat's in the driveway, one Gremlin is parked next to the garage and my 15k original mile '74 Gremlin (the original sport compact) is parked in a rented garage about 8 miles from home. On a more serious note, it really sounds like a bad head gasket or a hairline crack by an intake valve to me. Gary
  20. [quote= ...now if we'd just get some damn snow....Hey, IT'S OVER HERE!! Lets see last Monday we got 10" off Lake Erie, about 4" melted, Sunday we got 12" so that leaves about 18" and just heard the report for t'mro, how about another 8-10" temps in the low 20's, nothings melting now. This is GREAT took the BAJA out to lead the plows Sunday afternoon (didn't want to get the BRAT or the 2.5RS dirty) JUST KIDDING HHAAHHAAHHAA. or is that HO! HO! HO! Gary in Cleveland, Ohio
  21. I am not sure what OEM manufacturers (Fram, Purolator, etc) will do. If they will phase out the older numbers also or keep them. The new filter, even in a smaller package, does have a larger filter surface area, But a lower bypass valve pressure rating. Yes, I'm familiar with this "let's put everything in a smaller package deal" I am the parts manager of a Toyota dealership and 'yota does this all the time. What I don't appreciate is the parts person's attitude (at the time he and I worked side by side he treated all Subaru customer's with the same contempt because this dealership was originally a VW dealership only) Just last nite that view was reinforced as I walked past the service counter, I overhead the service write-up dude informing a VW customer of the importance of using synthetic oil in his Passat. This past summer, I brought my 'Ru in for its 60K mile maintance. So what do you think they did for $400? Well I got new spark plugs, regular oil, oil filter and nothing else (I'm wise to the check this check that stuff). I even left the maintance book on the passenger's seat so they could at least initial it. When I got home I changed the oil back to synthetic and then discovered they didn't sign my maintaince book because I 'didn't put it (the book) in the write-up person's hand'.........What a CROCK!!!
  22. You'all are go'n'a love this one. Went to my favorite:rolleyes: dealer the other day for an oil filter for my '98 2.5RS Impreza. New guy at the counter, I told him what I needed, he brought me a 15208AA100. I then told him I needed the drain plug gasket (got that deer in the headlights look) so I showed him where they were hanging (this is one of the dealerships I used to work at years ago). When I got home I noticed this new filter box looked smaller than I had remembered from the last time I purchased a filter(I change oil every 3000 w/Mobil 1 Synthetic); got out my reference catalog (great book issued to Subaru parts departments in the late '90's) given to me by the parts manager 5 years ago. This book confirmed my suspision, filter should have been 15208AA060. Next day I called a different Subie dealer, parts person double-checked and yes I was right and he had the correct filter on the shelf. Last night I took the 'wrong' filter back just to exchange (I didn't want to make a big deal out of it). Parts person let me wait at the counter for 20 minutes (even after the receptionist paged first, then came out of her office and went into the parts department looking for him) and this was at 6:45 in the evening (I know he saw me because there is a two way mirror on the wall facing the parts counter, used to work there) When he finally appeared (by this time another customer had now been there about 5 minutes less than me) his attitude was 'why are you bothering me' I asked him just to exchange the filters and he gave me this big lecture about supperseeded part numbers. SO 15208AA060 GOES TO 15208AA080 AND THAT GOES TO 15208AA100. Which means if you use a filter wrench not a screwdriver or channel lock pliers to remove your filter you will now need a new oil filter wrench (which the dealership will be glad to sell you). I asked for a refund (kept the drain plug gaskets, they looked right) and will go to the other dealer on Saturday (assuming they are even open) and get the 'right' filter. Then again maybe he's full of it too. Gary
  23. Yes, I bought a seal kit from JC Whitney it came in a 10 or 20 foot roll, can't remember for sure it was about 10 years ago. Just got a new catalog from them, but I'll bet you can go 'online' to check it out and order it. Gary
  24. Don't forget, AE81T mounts air box right where the battery is on non-turbo cars and if you use the turbo donor cars' wire harness now the battery will be on the driver's side, unless you cut the donor harness up (not a good idea as some of the connections may be brittle after 20 years)..... just my .02 Gary ('83 Turbo Brat)
