if you use an ea81 tranny, it should fit fine w/out any banging of the tunnel.

found a ea81 turbo need advice asap
first off, i know nothing about turbos.i found a 83 turbo wagon (complete) at a junkyard this weekend w/ only 120k on it! the guy wants $500 for the engine w/ manifold, fi, turbo and everything. we don't know whats wrong w/ the car. here are some questions, just to start, i'm sure it will bring up a dozen more. oh, and getting the whole car is not an option. he wants too much and the body ia not in the condition that i want. 1.) what's it worth/how much would you pay? it's lower milage than i've ever seen, but we don't know what's wrong. i've got no problem rebuilding it, and i could probobly get him to include the harness. oh, and they pull it, not me. 2.) how big a pain in the rump roast do you figure to put it in my '80 hatch. it's probobly more than i've taken on before, but hey, it's a challenge. what are the biggest obsticles? 3.) are these engines worth the hassle? my mechanic friend sais ea81Ts are pure crap. what are the downsides? (what goes wrong with them) what are the benefits? 4.) the engine looked clean. and had no obvious cracks, what should i look for to make an educated guess as to wether or not it's good? edit : 5.) would i be better off just getting the turbo and fi junk and putting it on the ea81 i already have? i was under the impression that there were some differences w/ the heads as well.

stashed a brat bumper in colorado
on saturday the 13th at the aurora pull n save i stashed a brat bumper/bull bar with the intention of retrieving it this week, which i can't do. if any of you colorado folks want it, email me for explicit instructions on where it is. i hate to see it go to waste. it's only 37 dollars including tax and core. i was just short a little jingle, cause i unexpectedly found an lsd (can't stop mentioning that.) edit: it's this kind: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/80s/pushbar/brush-w.jpg

hot damn, got me an LSD (and it's a freeforall!!!)
after a year of regularly checking every possible doner at my favorite junkyard, only to find all RXs pre-pilferred, it happened for me. when i turned that back wheel and saw it's mate turn in the same direction, there was this feeling.....sorta like when your fishing with a down rigger and you see your line release from the clip. you can hear your heartbeat for a moment.....then you scramble for your tools.,

Badges Vintage, (question)

So, theoretically, why wouldn't a turbo on a carburator work?
wow... you can't say d u m b a s s on the new board.
-
So, theoretically, why wouldn't a turbo on a carburator work?
so i may be a ******* but...ea81 turbos were FI? i din't realize that. does that mean it's relatively easy to convert a regular ea81 to FI, being that the parts are out there. what other differences/obsticles are out there?
-
what models can donate rear disk for ea81 4x4?
whilst pilfering the wheels off an '83 brat at a junkyard i noticed it had rear discs. i assumed they were stock. you say no?
-
why didnt they ever put an ea82 in ea81
turbo hatch, anyone that can confirm that? by incredibly rare do you mean not of this continent?

Dead on the side of the road
i may be talking out my rump roast, cause i don't know how ea82s are set up, but on an ea81 the fuel pump runs off of the alternator, and a bad voltage regulator or alternator can make your fuel pump spoob the bed cause it's not gettin the juice. was there a warning light involved? you could hot wire the pump to drive it home, than get your mechanical groove on. coarse you might kill your battery. have a margarrita.

warped rotors?
if it's the bearing you could lift the front and wiggle the wheel. it would definately be noticable if it's so bad that it happens when you're driving. i have a little play in both bearings (280k miles +) but it's not noticable driving, so i think you would have a lot of play if the bearings are the culprit. edit: and regarding what the general said, definately look at the axel too, it could act exactly as you described. with the car lifted, rotate the wheel and see if it's binding at any point. let me know what you find, i'm interested.
