motor mounts are quite pricey.... even a piece of flat stock with holes drilled it would be better than nothing....... Bret
  2. I had the drive shaft from the Brat lenghtend 4 1/2". So I didn't have to make another crossmember for the Legacy's 2 piece driveshaft. That would of then had to be shortend.. Bret

I cut mine and then sleaved on a piece of pipe and welded it. Bret
  4. Alright here's a picture of the crossmember & the console...
  5. I’ll figure out the pictures and get some posted of the swap. As for the shafts what I did was I measured the out side edges of the splined shafts on the EA 81 & the legacy’s transaxles. They are the same width. I believe that Subaru used this same Transaxle design for many years…… So all I did was to replace the inner CV axle joint of the legacy’s onto the EA 81 shafts. AS long as the shafts are the same diameter and the CV hub is the same diameter they use the same balls & cage: so you can just slide the hubs right on and reconnect the boots. Now I have EA 81 shafts that have the correct spline count for the Legacy transmission…… VIOLA’ THX Bret
  6. I'll take a look at that.... it may work out perfectly. The tranny is a bit tight but it does fit in there. I made a custom crossmember for the tranny mounts. I welded 3"x3"x1/8" plates to 2 cutoff 1/2" bolts. those come down through from the cab ( recessed in the tar paper so they're flush and won't spin) then on through the unibody ribs under the car. I used 1 1/4" .090 square tubing with plates for the tranny mounts and bolts. I have also used the entire shift unit and center consol. When I try to upload pictures it says they're to big. I set my camera for 480x640... thats the smallest I have.... if I can figure it out I'll post pictures of the swap in stages. THX bret
  7. No I didn't keep the tranny. What I've done is to put the entire running gear from a 90 legacy that is an AWD auto tranny with the manual override 4WD.... I changed the rear end (4:11), auto tranny and the EJ22 engine. The transaxle splined shafts are the same width as the EA81 tranny... so all I did was to change the inner CV joint to the correct spline count on my EA81 axles.
  8. Not too wet here in AZ, but it may not work out... it seems like a pain to bring the wires through to the engine area from the cab. I'll check it out more tomorrow.. Maybe I can find a place to cut a hole that would make for easier access.... THX Bret
  9. I've found the connector. Tomorrow i'll test the wires... I'm down to my harness and exhaust... In the next few days it should be running; then I'll condense the harness. I've been thinking of making a mounting plate for the ECU and other components that would fit in the area that the spare tire used to be in, instead of triing to run all the wiring from inside the car....... THX Bret
  10. Primo... I can test all those when i find them. I should be able to simulate the voltages and signals...... THX for your responce...... Bret
  11. yeh..... take your time... THX Bret
  12. I was hoping someone had done this and would remember a wire color or two... or have a set of wire diagrams with color codes.... Bret
  13. I need help identifiing the wire colors on a 84 brat 4WD auto. I am needing to hook up the Tach, temp guage, check engine light and I'm sure some others...... I have a factory service manual (MSA 118) but it only shows the wiring diagram not the plugs, pinout or wire colors. Any help would be great.. I can see the connectors but don't know which wires I'm looking for.... I have tied into the round engine connector in the engine area for the oil pressure, are the other wires in that connector for any of the other wires I need to hook up?? THX Bret
  14. I'm glad you found that.... It was pretty hairy driving along on 4 25" tires when then what sounded like 3 M80s' went off inside the car to suddenly have the drivers side front wheel only 14" was tough enough to keep it in control and get stopped safely. Bret
  15. I had steering wheel wobble on a car and it turned out to be a separating tire...... doing 50 it took out everything in the wheel well.... be carefull about driving it untill you're sure it's not that...... Bret
  16. It sounds like a fuel problem. diconnect fuel line at carb and see if the pump is pumping. put line in a jar and have friend turn on ign. also the float could be sticking. if you have fuel being pumped but no fuel spraying in carb when throttle is pressed than something is messed up with the floats.... Bret
  17. That's what I was thinking of doing. I'll run the same size wire as the one from the relay back to the pump then ground to the chassis. How do I post pictues???? THX Bret
  18. What do you think about the ground wire.... tie into the brat harness ground or run seperate, larger ground from engine area???? THX Bret
  19. I'm running the correct type of pump.. just was wondering why people say to run seperate wires back to it instead of using the exsisting wires by just soldering on the new connector for the pump. Then tying into the fuel pump wires in the harness up front at pssenger side door????
  20. my 91 wagon had this same set of problems. It was the head gasket.... A cooling system test passed... the problem was that those tests are done at fairly low pressures... where as the cylinder compressoin is much higher.. it was taking cylinder compression pressures to push air passed a starting to fail headgasket. Checking the compression of each cylinder... (may show something) then pressurizing each cylinder at close to those pressures will possibly help solve which sides gasket is failing by producing bubbles or raising the fluid level in the over flow tank. You have to make sure each cylinder is on its firing faze so the valves are closed... I waited about 5 minutes on each cylinder... it was lucky #3 cyl for me.... Bret
  21. In this picture it looks like you haven't had to cut the fenders to fit those wheels and tires.... What size wheels & tires are those, and what size lift??? THX Bret http://offroadingsubarus.com/images/ej22swap_first_test_drive.jpg The beast out of the garage.. This is just after her first test drive
  22. did you run seprate wires back to the pump or did you tie into the harness in the car????? THX Bret
  23. I have read some threads that state you should run larger wires back to the EFI pump. Looking at the wires that are there for my 84 brat they seem to be the same size. is there an amp differance between those pumps or is it just easier to run wires fron the relay instead of tying in the the brats harness???
  24. What's wrong in that picture of those guys stratling the ditch?????????
