  1. How did you mount the transmission cross member? I want to install a 5 speed in my 84 wagon with an automatic, but I really don't see where to mount the transmission as the strutrod mounts are in the way.
  2. In California with out a title you have to at least quarter the car then any scrap yard will take it.
  3. Hi, I am doing the same swap this is where I have found the most infromation; Subaru Modifications, Subaru Retrofitting. There is a lot of infromation there you just have to dig for it. Good luck with the swap.
  4. Thank you for the information Ibreakstuff, a one piece drive shaft would solve the carrier bearing mounting problem.
  5. Thank you Gloyale, I have the whole donor car so I do have the cables. The sedan has the same 3.7 ratio as the wagon, as they are both turbos will the splines be different? Thought for the carrier bearing mount that I could remove the bung from the floor of the donor car and weld it to the wagons floor.
  6. Hi, Does your state use oxygenated/ethanol fuel? I was building a hotrod a few years ago and drove the donor car before pulling the engine, it took a little over a year till I was ready to restart the engine and the same thing acted like it wasn't getting fuel. The engine would run as long as I dribbled gas down the carb. I took the carb appart and the inside looked like it had been under water, all corroded. So I did a little on line research and found out that the fuels that have ethanol will breakdown and attract moisture in 3-6 months. Hope that helps a little.
  7. Any body know what crossmember I need for this swap? Will the EA82 flywheel work on the EA81 engine? What about the shifters out of the 85, will they work? Thank You.
  8. I have towed a Zieman motorcycle trailer with a full size Harley from Indiana to California, about 1200 lbs. with my wifes Forester. Would have been nice to have a little more power, but it did ok with no problems. I have towed our Tear Drop camping trailer with her Forester also, and plan to tow it with my 1984 wagon. You should be ok with the light towing that you are going to do.
  9. Hi everyone; ]Just joined the USMB, found it while searching the web for answers on modifications that I wanted to do to my newest project a 1984 Turbo wagon. I bought my first new Subaru in 1987 a 3 door gl 4x4, what a great little car, we use to play jeep with it and used it for hunting also. Steve
  10. Hi, I have never used one on a Subaru yet but have used them on some of the hot rods that I have built and my Landcruiser. J.C. Whitney has a good selection of all the bends. The last two kits that I have used were from Summit, all the bends and pipe you would need, the pipes are flared on one end so that they fit together better, rather than butt welding them, also you can clamp them if you aren't welding the joints. Hope that helps a little.
  11. ruparts thank you for the reply. So the pedals assembly out of the 1986 sedan will not work in the 1984. Time to look at the parts for sale.
  12. Hi; I have a 1984 turbo wagon with an automatic trans. The trans shifts and seems to work like it should, but I have a bad crunching and vibration when the car accelerates. The former owner had new axels installed so not them. I pulled the axels and the splined stubs appear to be loose, maybe something in the front diff? I also have a 1986 turbo sedan for a parts car, dual range 5 speed, that I would like to install into the wagon. Has anyone done a changeover like this? Would the later clutch pedal and cable work on the older car? Just from measuring none of the crossmembers look like they will work, so I guess that I will have to fabracate my own. The rear gears are the same 3:70's, but the sedan has LSD in it. Any ideas, input would really be appreciated.
