  1. The wash down of car and engine removal nearly 2 years ago.before complete strip down,i nearly gave up on it?
  2. Cylinder head Frost plugs rusty not far off from leaking water in the engine oil. The nail in the picture sitting in the hole.Other side cylinder head frost plug, brown more rusty, pushed through like card board. Removed the six plugs new ones soon.
  3. The tired pistons and rings done 240.000 kilometres.
  4. Cleaning engine EA81.Have another crank shaft and conrods.Did get someone to look at pistons and rings, said I needed news ones,as rings to loose on pistons I think, and being a flat four would be a oil burner,so rebore 20 thou piston and rings. .New main bearings and conrod bearings. So will take to someone else not sure who to use for engine reconditioning.Plus they want me to buy pistons & rings bearings etc.Hard to source pistons in NZ for some cars I think as less engine reconditioning being done. One place in Auckland would get them for $400.00 NZ for 4 pistons and rings from Aussie. Not sure where this is heading but will get something sorted soon.
  5. Bought front windreen rubber from OZ Auto Moulds & Rubbers, for sub brumby rubber approx. $120.00 NZ dollars. Reused old mouldings ,some of the black alloy foil? peel off, will paint mouldings paint black later.
  6. pushed outside to clean garage.
  7. Thanks thought show some pics, alloys looks alright, like look the brumby brat steel rims?on the wagons.
  8. Months ago went over outside of car to tidy up paint finish. The top surfaces bonnet, roof had lots of dust,or crap in.The bonnet was orange peelin in finish, not very smooth, but anyway it didn't matter as paint nibs as well,to fix wet sanded it with 1500 or 2000 grit, over the whole bonnet.Ended up doing nearly most of the roof as well.Once that's flated off,i would check by wiping with a good clean towel. Seeing where iam up to,is the paint shine gone, is any bits that need abit more sandind, move to next area,Iam only sanding it enough. as not to many coats there,if you sand through the clearcoat into the metallic color you will notice it.And a respray will be needed be, or touch it the the offending area. Hosed of bonnet and dry with towel.Next used rotary buffer with cutting pad attachment.Using cutting compound to buff up whole bonnet. For next was the front guard any paint nibs sand with 2000 grit using very small sanding block, may be 10 or 15 paint nibs,as the paint nib very small, you can feel them with the tip you finger.Nibs sorted no more sanding as paint nibs removed as wanted to keep sanding area as small possible. Then used buffer as above, buffed paint in small areas id sanded,to bring back paintshine,It looks like fine ,you would know that I touched.Next was drivers door then the next door etc ,etc.Took me a week to go round the car.A Spray booth you get less crap in, dusty garage with junk all round never mind, not ideal, saving money?
  9. Needs a few things finishing, drivers seat, badges, windsreen moulding needs painting black and moulding on the roof drip rail.
  10. Sanded back with 400 wet on repair area. Then went round with scotch pad to ruff it a little any other bits that funny used some sander to it nocked back.Mist coated some plastic adhesion primer,20 mins later grey lacquer primer sprayed on.The next day used grey scotch pad gave it a bit of rub. Then used degreaser on rag and wipe it all over, with another clean rag wipe it dry.Sprayed the three items gunmetal lacquer paint. job done.
  11. filled a few gouges then, brushed some 2k primer on repair area.
  12. Tidy up grille and headlight surrounds, cracked grille only super glued with plastic patch on the side to give more contact area for strength. On the top there was little broken piece broken, super glued it in, see photo red arrow.Finish off with body filler, and sand it back.
  13. front window for EA81 station wagon same as your members picture.
  14. Did go to website as well and mail them, was keen on tailgate rubber as well after I contacted them. Presumed they only like selling spares internally. The pictures on ebay don't show much just backside of rubber, and uses the same picture, is repeated, may be a poor copy? Not used any from this company. But from 86Bratman pictures it looks fine, picture a little bit blurred.
  15. Is this the same sellar 86bratman, rotary_products_new old_car_company _in Australia on ebayau. Contacted them about a frontscreen rubber, but got no reply.
  16. EA71 engine mated to 1984 4wd auto transmission, its not the right engine,as it should have EA81.Only want to sell engine as a runner,as it is no use to me.Obstacles are? exhaust headers pull together as Ea71 narrower distributor electronic, no points Ea71 fly wheel on and clutch cover, left out clutch plate auto choke and wires fuel return on carb start motor measuring the throw looks like it not quite reaching. there maybe housing differences? clutching at straws now,as don't really want to damage starter and ring gear.Just to many differences between engines, any thoughts or anybody tried this?
  17. Finished painting bumpers in lacquer black textured bumper paint. The rest painted in 2K matt black the tailgate handle fascia, door handles ,door mirrors, window wipers, petrol flap, brake booster, headlight bases, wheel nuts, done before winter sets in. The bumpers needed repairs,a few scrapes here and there that needed filling. Used flexible bumper body filler. the area I wanted to fill any dags or ridges nock them off with sandpaper.I run the sandpaper in the gouges so the filler has a good key to stick to.I think usd 120 grit.Final sanding used 240 grit maybe a bit of 280 grit, sprayed a light dusting of plastic adhesion primer twice, ten minutes between coats. Then primed the whole bumper with grey lacquer primer 3 or 4 coats. Enough of the boring talk its assembly, luckly I did take plenty of pictures of car to help reassembly. As you do forget things ,where does go ??? looks simple enough at the time.
  18. Have 6 places the size of a pea paint runs to fix up.
  19. Did buy a Iwata AZ3 HTE 2 for topcoat as the cheap gravity feed gun I had bought using it as a primer gun only on this car.as owned a suction spraying gun for 20 years, they still do a good job. Spraying the 2 coat of clear found it difficult as seeing what I was doing with overspay mist in the garage, and the shiny surface from the from first coat, made hard to see an judged. And no iam not a spraypainter.
  20. was painted at home, not ideal, fumes, mess, neighbours
  21. painted this week, was going to get someone with a spray booth to do it,as less crap ending it, and it makes a mess.Plus if it goes wrong apply 2 pack clearcoat,as more work to fix and tidy up.I would rather only spray a couple of panels at most. Some of the soft edge masking has a hard paint edge now,yes some bits are disappointing ,won't to any way.thanks for looking Rowen.
