  1. I always use some 40 cm of plastic garden hose , which fits narrow on the ceramic part of the plug. Only the first 2 turns with a key , as well as the last 2.....
  2. Just some follow-up , the USA ordered parts did not yet arrive (there is some Brazil customs strike going on) , but I managed to get one injector (used) injector for bare gold , in this country. Now it is behaving like it did never before , for sure this faulty injector did cost me a lot of gas...The engine is like new..... The last miles with the faulty injector was about 1liter/Km , or 2MPG... I did a change of the oil afterward , very high level , and of course mixed with gas. Oil was like water.... But as I said , already one year ago this injector did strange things , now this becomes clear. It might not happen very often , therefore I changed everything before which everybody thinks first ,(filters , plugs , etc) but do not forget the injectors , that is the lesson I learned.... Thanks for the advices , Harry
  3. It is on the fuel rail , one sticker on one end only. In fact NOT on the rail , but on the pieces , who hold the individual injectors in place. Each with the 2 screws. On the first gen legacies 90-94, the fuel rails are left & right specific, however injectors should not be left/right or cylinder specific. Is your 93 Impreza a US spec vehicle? I don't know for sure if it is yes or no , the vin is : JF1GF6LR5PG010513 , it was sold via on official dealer in Brazil. From the info I've found and the parts book, the part # you want is 16611AA300 That is also the number I did transfer to the seller , I hope for the best.... Thanks...
  4. I spend quite some time in trying to solve a rather uncommon problem. One week ago I mentioned it in http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=87641 (Impreza , 1993 , 1,8l) First cleaned the rails and injectors by putting some cleaning liquid. I think this was my first mistake. Took out the left and right front injectors and interchanged them. I think this was my second mistake.... Question : Why is there a sticker on the two rows with R and L ? Are left and right not identical ? 3 out of 4 injectors do have a resistance between 11 and 15 ohm , which is the spec. The one originally placed left has 6,8 ohm... And I guess that this one is now always open , taken out the plug and rotating the engine results in fountains of gas. Once in a while the engine runs on 4 cilinders , mostly just 3. Then the search for parts : in the country I am , no change. Subaru dealers exist but helping service is negative. Ordered 4 in the USA , hope to get these soon. (and I hope the right ones....) Most online shops do not ship outside the USA. Ebay is mostly better , but what is the right injector for me? The ones which are now installed are pink , but there are grey ones , yellow , red and more....All seem the same in terms of size ... Question : Is it the amount of gas per millisecond who goes trough it ? I found some references but are these correct ? Partnr. FJ445 or 16611AA300 or 2320916120 .............. Last Question : is there some emergency manner for fixing the wrong injector ?
  5. The cam shaft positions where perfect , both cams in line with the marks. I then changed one injector from front left to front right. Strangely ennough , there are stickers on one of the two left and right injectors , marked L and R. as they are adjusted for r or l ? The result : a lot of smoke out of the exhaust and it seemed to run on 3 cilinders. I measured the resistance of each injector , 3 are in between 13 and 16 ohms , one is 7 ohms ,that is the one with problems..... I do not know the nominal value , but it seems strange. Disconnecting it does not change the rpm in idle , all the others do.
  6. Thanks to the helpfull hints , as this weekend is a long one I will check what is recommended by your folks. I have already a belt for "you never know", so in case .........
  7. Impreza 1800 , 1993 , awd , auto , 100.000 miles. The car is using much more gasoline lately as before , at least 50% more as still 3 months ago. Filters , plugs , spark plug cables ,O2 sensor , all new (oem) Put some cleaning stuff for injectors into the fuel rail for 15 minutes , no improvement. The two spark plugs at the right hand side of the engine (passenger) are clean and represent the perfect color as seen in all exemples. Plugs at the left side (driver) are both black as in all exemples for a too rich mixture. What makes this difference ? Both injectors at left kaput ? What more could be a common reason for both cilinders ? Oh yes , the nearest place of a dealer is 3000 Km away. It is the only Subaru in the region. White elefants are more common............. thanks for any suggestion !
  8. A wagon 4x4 , automatic , EAT82 , year 1986 , running fantastic...... Who can supply a picture of the exhaust connection between the cilynder ports and the turbo unit ? It might be a picture from a manual or a real photo picture. In fact I am looking urgently for a current replacement. Ref numbers , source(s) where to buy : Most welcome !
  9. Parts , OEM or general , in my case for an Impreza 1993. O lot of US suppliers , yes , but nobody ships overseas ! For Holland or Brazil. Who knows who does ? Thanks...
  10. Impreza 1993 , 1800 , AWD , automatic After a long downhill road in third gear (10 miles) no use of accelerator at all , one of the (new) spark plugs fail. It is black , wet from oil and gasoline. The engine only runs on 3 cylinders afterward. Measuring the resistivity of the relavant cable showed double the normal resistance. The plugs itself are resistive as well. I put a standard copper wire in parralel with the cable , the behavieour is better at again the same road. But not perfect , depending on speed , the engine runs still on only 3 cylinders. At some time I will replace all cables , but I have to wait 4 weeks for delivery. How important is the match of all resistive values (cables and plugs) in total ? Is there another component involved in the problem ?
  11. Check the stoplight check circuit in the right rear lamp , there are 3 reed relais . I had one broken relais (glass) and same behaveour
  12. [quote=nipper Er um .... I hate to rain on your parade, but the front pump is a gear type pump, very minimal seals. Usually its the seals in the rest of the tranny that gets tired. When its the front pump, its the fact the front pump has worn to the point where fluid is leaking past the vanes. Thanks for all the good links , i will study them all very well. And the last weeks I did already quite some reading. Nipper , of course you are right. Your technical knowledge is above any doubt. But your horizon is different. My position is (if things go really wrong) very easy , try to fix it or loose an equivalent of more then US$ 10.000 ; compared with cost of living and wages in respect to the US. I bought this 14 years old Impreza recently for US$ 6000 , the current market value over here. I do not count on a Subaru dealer network of about 10 places in a country bigger then the USA. I hope to get it going , but just in case......
  13. I did order from 3 places (Holland , GB, Australia) a cd manual for my Impreza 1993 , they where roughly the same...... Bad scanning and may-be only 20% of a normal OEM manual. Despite the description it did NOT fit my car , competely rubbish ! Useless at all for my car but also not for other years , e.g. about the brakes , just the spec , nothing more. So later I took a 3 days subscription from SUBARU STIS , downloaded all the very correct material........That is good stuff. Complaning at the vendor ? No replies ever....
  14. - that AT-signals must have some use ), perhaps I will do your improvement also. There are differences , I think my super-station was never sold in the USA , the one with a higher roof. It it not very dificult , one wire of the fan is permanently connected to + 12 volt , via a standard fuse, and in the acc. and run position of the ign. switch ,the other one (yellow wire) via the open or closed radiator thermo switch to ground. The yellow wire gives a signal to the computer. Hals und Beinbruch !
  15. Tried it for two months , no difference in MPG . May be cleaned the injectors , did run faster in idle for a time.
  16. Thanks for all the good hints from you all , in fact it can wait a bit , i got the car after it has been used fot years in Sao Paulo. Just cornering every 200 yards. And yes , the boot was full of nice red fluid and had a leak. Now , 2 months later and 3000 Km without much corners it does not leak anymore , the boot is closed again with a rubber band , as it does not turn , little or no dust will enter. The level in the oil pump reservoir does not lower But some time it will be done........ Have to enquire the parts outside the country. Will be pleased to send the picturere(s) , but clicking on your name does not give the mailaddress directly... Send me a private message with your address ,and I will send those pictures.
  17. At the picture you can see the seals (could not upload e better resolution , sorry) even 2 packages for replacements seems to be available at Subaru. Replacing will not be such a problem for me , just that if it not necessary to take the rack from the car , it makes things easier... Replacing the whole rack is nearly impossible , I am just one of the 100 in this country with such a car. Parts are not available , the seals can be shipped easily via the post..... Thanks for advice.
  18. Impreza 1993 , AWD , 1800 auto-transmission; The boot at the passenger side leaks fluid , other then replacing this , is it possible to replace the relevant o-rings and seals without taking out the rack ? I have seen some pictures on Nasioc , but it was taken out of the car. Any hint or former experience from a real case ? The driver side is perfect..............
  19. Here is a detailed story about the ignition switch , not just the start position...... http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=65843
  20. Sometimes there is a `Stoplight Checker` , build in the right tail lamp. Has 3 reed relais and the current flow for both brake lights goes over this circuit. Just check it.
  21. One thing I miss in most discussions : a result or a fix at the end , a lot of theories , but everybody did solve in one way the problem , even id just by throwing away the whole car ? The solution is for most of us the most important ! Sorry for this "grandpa" statement .......It is a great forum !
