  1. the STi motor will go, but you need a engine subframe from a WRX, older legacy turbo, Forester XT, or STi with the matching front swaybar. The transmission does not need to be from a STi, but I would advise getting one from a Legacy 2.5GT, Forester XT, or Saab 9-2X. Lighter than the STi 6spd, tougher than the WRX 5spd by a hell of alot, and guess what... It eats alot less power than the 6spd. The Shop FXT would make the same crank HP as my STi with equal mods, but my STi was down some 20whp. Given this I would look for a wrecked forester XT with intact driveline to buy and convert everything. Or simply do the smart thing and drop your money on a new LGT.
  2. The GT will be cheaper for the performance hands down. The motor in the non-turbo is virtualy made of glass as far as it comes to running boost. The heads and cams are also likely far from what you want. Then you also don't get the latest and greatest reinforced 5spds that don't nuke under 400WHP. More over, The LGT can hit 300 crank with a Unichip or Reflash, and atleat here the dealers will not care at all. Oh and they massively out torque a stock STi... Last a Base 5spd Sedan's MSRP is a $26K. Argue down from there for real saving.
  3. Well The Intake setup is done, and should be avalible where ever GPMoto products are sold. Also the Unichip has had the maps done, and is avalible in a PnP version. The GPMoto header also fits, and I will be putting one on shortly.
  4. Keith, I work for GPMoto, and if you wish send me an Email at Eric@GPMototech.com. This way I can keep you uptodate on what toys we have for the car. I should have mine over 300WHP within a couple of weeks after the break in is done. Oh well can't wait for it to arrive at the dealer so I can start playing with it.
  5. There are many levels of transmissions that subaru has built over the years. In general terms the STi-RA has had the strongest gearbox for a given year, with the normal STi just behind. The WRX is a step down from the STi's and the naturaly asperated cars another step down. In specifics the 6spd is hands down the strongest stock gearbox subaru makes. It shares little to nothing with the 5spd manual. Some issues with it though are that its much heavier than the 5spd manual and it consumes some 15+ WHP more than the 5spd manual at 7K rpm. Next up in strength is the Forester XT, Legacy GT, and Saab 9-2X transmissions. These use a revised case for extra strength. No reports on what the exact guts are on these but expect the FXT and LGT to run the equvalent to the 5spd Type-RA boxes. The saab may just use WRX level internals given its low stock torque. Next down are the STi 5spds from Japan. Below that are the WRX gearboxes. etc. More over there is a definite trend of the newer the box the stronger it is as nearly every year subaru makes upgrades and evolves the design. Oh and the GPMoto forester put 420WHP and 400+ ft-lbs through the stock FXT transmission. My STi has seen the same powerlevels for well over 10K miles and is like new. Stood up to well over 50 off redline launches at the drag strip too.
  6. The wrx for 05 did get some suspension upgrades over the older ones, but its still meh. Main issue with both the WRX and LGT is stock tires. Oh and you CAN get better suspension for the LGT right now. Just look into getting the Spec-B takeoffs from Japan. better struts and stiffer springs.
  7. Legacy777, I've owned a Stg IV WRX and currently own a 420WHP STi. I had a EVO RS (found a tree...). I am getting a LGT to replace the EVO as it has nearly the same pace w/o any of the crap. And if you drive a WRX and LGT back to back I think you will find just how badly the WRX needs a update. The drivetrain of the LGT is basicly STi spec. This means that the transmission can handle huge power, and the motor will put out said power with a whole lot less effort. The handling is much better in the LGT too. The rear suspension stock is much tighter, and the legacy is on the latest generation of the subaru platform, with this generation being much lighter in the right areas. Basicly they removed alot of wieght off the nose of the car. All for just a few hundred more than a WRX. Heck the Forester XT makes the WRX look stupid.
  8. sorry but the WRX is obsolete. The LGT (legacy GT) is faster, better handling, more comfortable, etc. Never mind it will be stupid cheap to get power out of compared to the WRX. The EJ255 in the legacy is so much better than the EJ205 in the WRX its not remotely funny. Basicly I should have a LGT w over 400WHP by the end of the year....
  9. Love to give you one, but as those cars have 0 attraction right now (read $$$ to be made) for the company I work for, I can't swing it. However the Unichip if successful on the hot wire MAF turbo EA-82 cars might make enough $$$ to justify the expense of the time put into making it work.
  10. Well the place work for sells all the subaru Unichips in NA. As far as I know there isn't anything out for the old turbos yet. BTW how many wires does your Distributer have?
  11. Well i might be able to get you some free dyno time, down in the beaverton area. Might be a few weeks out as the dyno just went online and has a heavy backlog of vehicles needing time on it. Let me look into it though. Also Would you be interested in trying out some engine management on it?
