  1. the other thing it might be is hydraulic locked if you screwed up the injector. Pulling the plugs would free it.
  2. Another thing might be that you are not running it enough. I say this because my 65 GTO started the other day with a cloud like a steam engine. It sat all winter and the oil seems to have gone by the seals I think. I have started it a couple of time since and it is not smoking again, but if it sits it will.
  3. I guess they also lost Chef from South Park but he continues. Good choice for you right now, and when you become a celebrity chef you can buy another Subie.
  4. I had that happen with Forester rear drums. I had to send them back and the new ones fit fine.
  5. But with an external leak it works fine if you keep water in it. The owner of my car went across the US twice. She said she always had to add a bit of water every month when she opened the hood, but she had no idea why. Right now I'm running the Subie goop and 03 head gaskets and it has not required any antifreeze since 03.
  6. I was not the original owner of my car and I have Canadian relatives. Does that count?
  7. We know you know all the common problems, heck you had most of them. Just be calm when you look at it and get a warranty or in writing that you can return it if it is not as represented.
  8. Check that the backing plates are not bent. It is quite common to bend them a bit when jacking.
  9. If it all checks out good my choice would be the 2000. You will still have to service it but at a rate that you can control. Your other car requires a restoration that somebody who has tons of time amy be able to give it.
  10. A spring can migrate from a seal, often during installation of a new seal. It is possible that the oil pump screws are loose on the back too.
  11. It does concern me a bit because my car does not do that when I clear codes with my Actron. If you just bought it I would be tempted to take it back and expalin what happened. Perhaps there is nothing wrong and it was an isolated instance but it is scarey.
  12. I have one of those and I've used on a few Subies with no problem. It has been on my car three times and has worked well.
  13. Nearly all engines are interference these days except Briggs and Strattons. My BMW uses a timeing chain on its complicated "M" engine. The only complaints I ever hear are from folks who don't keep thier oil changed. This often plugs up the tensioners or vanos variable valve timing. Frankly on the board I follow there have only been two complaints of this in five years, so it's not very common.
  14. When you go in for a tune up it's going to be fairly simple as far as filters and such go. Prepare yourself for a bit of a shock on the expense of a plug change though, it is a hard engine to change plugs on.
  15. But unlike belts, chains rarely just break. Modern timing chains usually last the life of the camshaft. Both systems have good and bad points on thier design. I bet those new Subaru sixes are going to prove to be excellent engines.
  16. Pull the front off the engine and inspect the oil pump and reseal it. Good time to do a main seal and all the other stuff too.
  17. I'll check it out when I get home. This government computer is only good for calling in the black helicopters.
  18. Got a local Radio Shack? They should have everything you need with the possible exception of a socket. If I were going to do this I'd skip the socket and just take a charging adapter and cut off the socket end. Then I'd extend the cord to the power pick up for the lighter. I would put an inline fuse in the hot side. It would be an easy job.
  19. Well....that too. Even parinoids have enemies. That one almost put me on the floor.
  20. If you think we can sell it you can have the Canadian rights Frag!
  21. Ya know Blitz this has always driven me a bit nuts. Even if I know I just added the correct amount it goes up and down like a yo yo. I've settled for just trying to check the oil in a consistant fashion. My current method is do some errands with wife, and pop the hood in the driveway. Pull the dipstick and go do something else. After about ten minutes come back and if it looks low add about a pint. This bring it to over full and makes me cuss it. Slam the hood and put the oil away and live with the fact that I'll never have it quite right. Resolve to study Subaru Zen.
