  1. was there seals on the exhaust? some engines only run seals on the intakes, the intake valves are under vacum, suck oil, the exhaust valves are under pressure blow. good luck. JR
  2. this is 1 of the oil studys i saved. http://www.micapeak.com/info/oiled.html old data but interesting.
  3. check this out, http://people.msoe.edu/~yoderw/oilfilterstudy/oilfilterstudy.html we race a late model stock car in the northwest, year before last we had a lot of cam failures, I started checking out engine oils and filters, i didnt get to far on filters but this is one of the sites i saved, as far as oil i found that the manufactures have taken zinc out of moter oil. zinc is a extreme pressure lubricent, designed for metal to metal contact, IE breaking in a camshaft, from what I understand the epa was concerned that an engine that burns oil will screw up the cat converter with the zinc, at work i have saved the oil study and will post the link tomarow. JR
  4. a clue http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/archive/index.php/t-9847.html
  5. on the 91 legacy wgn the trans ecu was under the left side of the dash. its been awhile but i seem to remember that the trans ecu was supossed to supply voltage to the duty c sol to hold it in 2 wd. I think i found the pinouts somewhere on these boards. good luck jr
  6. did the sol ohm test bad? I had a legacey wgn that all codes said duty sol c was bad, car had torque bind, fuse in didnt help, pinned out trans ecu, trans ecu was bad.
  7. xoomer, are you still interested in buying this turbo car? if you want the motor only I will pull it and dispose of the car for an added $50. ?
  8. gm bought daewoo, check out a chev aveo, I am doing an engine in a 2004 aveo, no parts avail, only dist center is in mich, no aftermarket, gen daewoo parts arnt the same, have to buy from gm, 6 day wait on the west coast:banghead: broke timing belt bent 16 valves, :-\ dealer installed new belt and then told owner that it is a interference engine. go figure
  9. vacum test at a machine shop means that they have a device with a foam pad that pulls a vacum, you place it over each port, intake or exhaust, and pull a vacum, if it dosnt hold than that means that valve is leaking, needs a valve job, seats ground and valves refaced, sometimes valves will burn and need to be replaced or seats will need to be replaced, rarely the head will have a prob like electrolisis and cannot be repaired, machine shops will usuily pressure test 1st to look for cracks and then vacum test to check valve condtion
  10. I repaired a 91 awd for binding, had a code for duty c sol, sol ohmed ok installed fuse no fix, checked pinouts at trans ecu no power to sol, replaced trans comp, all good. side note, this car was bought used and the prev owner had driven or towed this car in that condtion for so long that the rear diff had exploded and cought fire, scorch marks on the rear bumper should have been a clue. I reaplaced rear diff, mounting bushings, and fuel lines, car runs/drives awesome
  11. brushes are $$$$ for the xt 6, and use sub fluid in an xt 6
  12. good going Qman, my end is going great with the leftovers, trans is going in now, had a new clutch in it! also found out I needed the dist and coolent sensor. The o2 is bad but I am going new. Glad it worked for both of us. good luck at the rallys. JR
