  1. No the disk seemed to be tight when i put the cover on, its an 84 ea81 brat. I need to pull the motor back out to really diagnose this but its raining and will continue to do so for the time being so i oly get small windows to work.
  2. I thought that at first when i was putting it in but when flipped around the disk sticks out like 3/4" from the flywheel face.
  3. Throw out bearing and fork were good and the cable isn't even hooked up yet, i didn't have the flywheel machined.
  4. Hey guys when i got the new clutch for my ea81 brat i went to put it on, and it's identical to the old one, and noticed there was about an 1/8th" gap and when i tightened the bolts down the fingers went flat and i knew it didn't look right but i was told by a few old mechanics that it was normal and would be fine, i finish the installation today and the car rolls while in gear, so what happened that the new clutch cover has that much of a gap, i mean yeah it's a new clutch disk but its not an 1/8th" thicker and yes i put the old cover on and it was the same, HELP!!!
  5. Finally got the correct clutch today (huzzah) been assembling the motor in the kitchen because i knew rain was coming (been sunny the whole time though) clutch gets here today and bot did it ever start raining and will continue to do so for at least a week so all i can get done now is to put the new clutch on and wait for mighty zeus to stop pissing on my town.
  6. Yeah i get thats what you meant, we only have to smog when we first get a rig, i was wondering where you live that you have to smog every other year?
  7. Don't mean to sidetrack, where in ca do you have to smog bi-anually? Is this only in metropolitan areas? Just curious as i live in humboldt and only have to smog once when you transfer a vehicle here.
  8. Ya i was stoked that my brat came with it's skidplate but it wasn't installed so that was the very first thing i did after i put the rebuilt motor back in the seats are the next thing i put back.
  9. Yeah toss it and find a new one, thats what killed my 84 gl, dented the oil pan and didn't really notice, a week later the engine seized going down the highway, pulled the pan off the pickup tube was right up against the pan, not getting any oil, better to be safe.
  10. Pipe... luxury... whe the pipes on my old 84 gl wagon both broke off the motor i just kept driving... for a year... that is untill i got a ticket and had to put new pipes on, now you wanna talk about loud holy sheepshit i could be heard 5 miles away, the only times i felt bad about it being louder than mighty zeus was when id start it in the morning and the craptachi would stick wide open and had to quickly shut it down and start it again.
  11. So am i correct in assuming that the 8-7/8" clutch disk from an 84 ea81 dl would be the same as the 8-7/8" disk for an 84 ea81 brat?
  12. Luk and exedy are a no go (they only make the 7-7/8" clutch) only O'Reillys has a 8-7/8 clutch their in house cheapo brand power torque for double the price i payed for the luk so now I'm delayed a few weeks from this and rain....
  13. Ok engine all together... essentially.. now clutch i ordered a luk clutch it arrives today aaand it's an 8" clutch and i needed... you guessed it an it's as close as makes no difference a 9" clutch... yay!
  14. Hahaha damn you i was about halfway through typing that search when i got it haha i was like no way reall.... oh now i get it...
  15. Dr is the only way to go even if it's just the 4spd, i have taken my old wagon and current brat most wouldn't dare without a winch and a 3day supply of food, mud bogs, steep hill climbs, river crossings, gnarly rutted out woodland trails, sand dunes been there and done it all bone stock, best part? The look of shock on the face of the guy in the stuck toyota when i bomb up the hill past him then pull him out on the way back through, only ever been stuck a few times and all of those few were places heavy trucks would have been doomed where as i can just dig a little path for the wheels or jack it up and fill in the ruts or even just pick it up and move it out of harms way lol.
  16. You can find the y pipe exhaust here http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/search/?searchType=global&N=0&Ntt=Catalytic+Converter&tahsearch=1&tahgroup=UGS&tahrank=95363608&tahscore=5.50773 If you live in ny youll need the 50 state model bit pricey at $355, but if you don't live in ny its faaar cheaper $169
  17. Another quick question is the passenger side of the motor the left hand side? Now that they're clean i see the rockers are labled lh and rh.
  18. Ok so the only thing that goes in that hole is just the o-ring in the recess, theres not a rod or anything that goes in the hole and seats on the spring in the pump.
  19. Hey guys it's been a few months but my ea81 has been rebuilt and is ready for reassembly and installation, took the block to a local machine shop for them to do the crankshaft and main bearings also got honed and new pistons and rings, there wasn't a motor shop around that would touch it (including the subaru dealership) and on 3 occasions was literally told to perform Intercourse with a horse, so i took it to the only machine shop that said yes, and also knew what it was, and they did the job for $1500, had to do some morally questionable and I'm fairly certain illegal things to pay for it, but hooray its done, just got it back a few days ago and now i have a few reassembly questions. 1. The bypass valve on the oil pump is it supposed to have something in that hole? I don't remember anything being there and don't see anything in my parts that looks the part but it does look as if something goes there because of the spring and all. 2. Pushrods, i had them all labled when they were sent in with the heads to be cleaned and they came back in a slightly less accurate not labled at all sort of way...... soooo what is going to be the best way to reinstall them? 3. Also a torque spec sheet would be great namely oil pump i have an old book and it has things like heads, bearing caps, and flywheel but not things like intake and oil pump. Thanks guys.
  20. So these are about the only rod bearings im finding, will these be correct? Because it says oversize so im a little confused.
  21. I figure the oil is coming from the front main seal or oil pump seal but what has me puzzled is where the coolant is coming from theres only a small ammount but i don't know where best guess would be the water pump or maybe headgasket, also it got low enough on oil that one of the rod bearings is knocking so im going to do the whole bottom end and take off the heads to see if thats the coolant leak and do the valve adjustment at the same time, I'd like to just have the whole motor rebuilt but the only engine shop we got told me to get lost no subarus (also i can't really afford it right now)
  22. Hey guys my wife uses our '84 ea81 brat as a dd to she was coming home oil pressure dropped from 50psi where it normally sits to under 25psi she pulled over popped the hood and there was oil every where so she got it towed home i got to looking and theres oil underneath from tip to tail, and theres a tiny bit of coolant coming off the front of the motor, the oil looks to be coming from either the front main seal or oil pump water pump area same place the coolant is dripping, but theres so much oil i can't see where its coming from, theres even oil on all 4 wheels ajd brakes literally every where any input would be nice as this is her dd. Thanks guys.
