  1. Time to re-visit this, as I will be doing this soon as the Brat has been off the road for a while. Excuse my ignorance but what to you mean by "FSM" I think I have a plan formulated but I need the track widths front and rear, I've searched everywhere on the web but there seems to be a lot of conflicting info. It would be much appreciated if somebody could let me know. Thanks!
  2. Hello all, Does anybody know the front and rear track widths for an '87 Brat? I'll be looking at trying to DIY my wheel alignment soon and I'd be interested if front and rear are both the same or if the front is wider, I'm sure I read somewhere that it was. Thanks.
  3. I would second that, you should see the amount of welding that goes on with older stuff in Scotland. A lot of older / classic owners would kill to have a body that good. I would say EJ it, it will give the old girl a new lease of life.
  4. I'll not actually manage to get to this for another week or two, but I'll post back on the results.
  5. I'm not home at the moment so unfortunately I can't take any measurements. The plan is to turn down the excess diameter past the threads on the EA82 tie rods and thread them further up to match the EA81 tie rod length. A quick side by side comparison looks like this is possible. When I lay the manual and power rack side by side with a GC8 WRX coupling on, it only looks to be a little longer. I was hoping I could slide the WRX coupling up the steering column to lose the excess length. I think I might have come up with another solution as well.. GC8 Impreza coupling and shorter '97 Legacy coupling, this looks like it might work.
  6. Hello all, I have a EA82 PS rack waiting to go into my EA81 1987 Brat. I don't have the EA82 coupling to go with it unfortunately, I have held up an EJ coupling and it looks slightly too long but could possibly be modified. Or there might be enough length on the column splines to take up the extra length. Can anybody tell me what coupling might fit, or is it only the EA82 one, which as far as I can see is very hard to get. Thanks.
  7. Just a quick question, somebody must know. Does an L Series front bumpers fit a brat? They look a bit nicer so fancy trying it.
  8. Looks too good to be true unfortunately, I found the below with a bit of digging. It's about halfway down the page, I couldn't upload the pics as they are too big. https://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2849900&page=2
  9. It's a 98 I'm fitting, no coil on plug. I was pretty sure I'd have to lift the engine to change the plugs. Do the timing covers not touch when the engine is under load? This is great if it does fit, it will save a load of dicking about with the sparky stick.
  10. Do you have any photos of this? It must be seriously tight at the timing covers. I'm interested, as I’m about to drop an EJ20t into my brat and if I can get away without chopping the rails it would be great.
  11. If anyone is interested the build thread is here - http://forum.retro-rides.org/thread/206278/subaru-brat It's slow going but I'm getting there, the EJ20T is nearly ready to go in.
  12. Hello all, just an update on this in case anybody wants to do this in the future. I completed the conversion, pretty straight forward really, the hardest part was cutting a hole on the nearside for the heater blower intake and spot welding on the rain deflection plate under the scuttle panel. Otherwise it was easy enough.
  13. I just received my hubs from dfoyl, and I'm extremely happy, they look OEM. Thanks again, excellent job, much appreciated.
  14. Cool, as I said, I'll take a set with studs. I have a workmate in Aus so they can be delivered to him. Keep us posted. Thanks.
  15. Just to clarify, am I right that you are only doing these with a PCD 5x100 and not the original 4x140? Thanks.
  16. Yeah, from what have manage to see on the net, they do look pretty similar. I'll be extremely happy if it's just a case of relocating the column bracket and drilling hose for the brake booster etc.
  17. Please add me to the list, I would be interested in a set of these if you ran another batch.
  18. It looks like I was too slow and missed out on the rear hubs, bugger. XTs are extremely rare in the U.K., I think it's the only one I've ever seen. What's the alternative for a rear disc setup?
  19. If it has power steering will the rack fit the brat?
  20. I currently have a Brat that eventually plan to do a EJ turbo conversion on. I potentially have the opportunity to obtain parts from a complete XT Turbo. I know the rear suspension arms, hubs, calipers and discs are worth taking as I can convert to rear discs, but is there anything else worth taking from this car would would be useful? Thanks.
