My rear strut on the right is knocking bad when i drive over a bump. Have checked the nuts on the upper strut mount and they seem to be tightened properly. Could it be that the top nut on the shock is loose?

But do you have to remove the intake manifold to replace the coolant temp sensor?

I´m now trying to replace the sensor and having a few problems. 1) How is the electrical connector disconnected from the sensor? 2) Do i have to take the manifold off to replace the sensor or can i just use a deep socket to get to it properly? Thanks in advance Einar

Clean the Idle Air Control valve or replace it.

I´ll probably get a used IAC valve soon at a parts sale. But does a IAC from 1.8 or 2.0 subaru engine fit to a 2.2? Are they the same or is there some difference?

The IAC valve is very expensive. I cleaned it last summer and the car idled smoother for some time. Last thing i want to do is to buy a new one because i´m a student! What can i do to make it last longer, cleaning it or some adjustments?

When i start the car cold, it sometimes runs very rough and the rpm start to descend and finally it stalls and it shows a CEL light. I checked the code and it was a Error code.24, which is the air control valve. Is it the same as the idle air control valve or is there a another air control valve on the engine that i don´t know about? The car is ´91 Legacy 2,2.

Yes, 19 mm is the right size. Don´t know how much wear was on the old PCV valve but i doubt it has been replaced before. In what areas of engine does the PCV affect the engine. In what areas should i see improvement, better mileage, less fuel consumption?

The steering wheel on my ´91 Legacy is very worn out. I can twist the rubber on the wheel and i´m not comfortable with that, want to have it stiff! Do steering wheels on newer gen. of Legacys and even Imprezas fit on my car or are they different? And also, do i need special tools to get the wheel off?

I also have one bad rear wheel bearing and am going to replace it soon. Should i just change both wheel bearing or do they wear differently out?

Yes i changed the timing belt recently but didn´t think about the other subsystems, such as the oil and waterpump:-\. What about changing the fuel filter, OEM or Japanparts?

Thinking about changing the waterpump as a preventive maintance. Is the OEM WP the only one you trust to use. I was wandering about buying a WP from Japanparts as i assume it´s cheaper. And also what seals should i replace on the engine. Is it the camseals, crankshaft, oilpump 0-ring, valve covers. What am i forgetting?

On my Legacy it´s recommended to use API Gl-5 SAE 80W-90 gear oil.

What chemical cleaner do you use to remove rust and and scale from the engine and cooling tube surfaces? I saw it in Haynes manual that the flushing action of water will just remove sediments from the radiator but not the rust and scale.

I once owned a Subaru 1800 and one day the started to tick horribly! This classic Subaru symptom is because dirt gets into hydraulic lifters and the HL therefor can´t refill themselves. So the solution is and it WORKS! Change the oil in your car and add one liter of ATF with the motor( if the oil capacity is 4 l , use 3 l MO and 1 l ATF , don´t overfill the engine!) Then let the engine run for some time and maybe drive 20-30 KM. Then change the oil and filter . Try using 10W-30 oil. This worked for me and hopefully for you.

The rotors are relativly new . If i step on the brakes with normal pressure they squeel. But if i step hard on the brakes the squeel stops. Could anyone show a pic of how the "Shims" look like?

I can feel that torque bind if i´m taking tight turns and so on. But isn´t just usual to have some torque bind on a 4wd. But it probably increases as the drivetrain and tranny get more worn out.

What is the "figure 8 test"?

Well it seems to me after reading the post that there isn´t any gain in fuel by having the car FWD. Probably not good for the drivetrain. The FWD circuit is only i think for when towing the car or have a mismatch tire.

I got a new tire which is the same size as the others. I was just wondering if i could save some fuel by having the car in FWD
