  1. A friend of mine has Legacy turbo wagon that the keyway on the crank for the harmonic balancer is all screwed up and the balancer wont stay on. His plan is to weld it on, which I told him was a bad idea, and if that doesnt work is going to sell it for scrap. Is the engine worth anything like this and does anyone know if na and turbos engines use the same crank shaft?

  2. blah blah blah ..... somewhat cute, but that's where it ends for me. Consider the way the industry has gone and that Subaru is just another cog in the big machine. They ditched their old fuel saving cars, they neglected the vintage owners from the moment they hit big in the 80's, they don't make any effort to support the vintage or enthusiast crowd here unless you're buying STi parts.

When they bring back something like a 1600 or 1400 I'll appreciate them showing those cars.

Hey Fuji H.I., I dare you to make a dual range on demand 4WD fuel injected 1600 or 1400 for the entire western hemisphere. Punks!

Give us what we NEED. NOT what advertising mindwarps us into believing we WANT.

I have to agree with you 100% on this one. I dont need AWD or 170 hp. I would happily buy a small 4wd that only made 100 hp brand new. I want efficiency and practicality and dont really care if the honda next to me can blow my doors off.

  3. It runs great right now, it just has a nasty habit of getting hot fast. It gets hot intermitintly every now and again. I have replaced the thermostat with a genuine Sube unit and still get the occasional overheat. When it gets hot I will pull it over and let it cool off. I have never pushed it while it is hot. I am going to pull the heads have them checked and put a stright edge on the deck. I am also going to throw a new WP and T belt while I am at it. Thanks for the advice everyone.

  4. I have a 98 outback ej25 that has gotten hot a couple of time due to what I believe to be a bad head gasket. My plan is to pull the engine do a complete reseal and have the heads and block checked for warpage. The question I have is how strong is the bottom end of the ej 25? I dont want to have to do a complete rebuild if I dont have to. The engine has 182,000 miles on it.

    Opinons appreciated.

  5. I work in a tire shop and can say that as far as wear and balance goes its Michelin all the way. I have the Michelin Weather Wise II on my 87 and when the BFGs wear out on my Out Back I am going to put them on it as well. I would recomend avoiding the BFG Traction TA. We have to warranty them constantly due to seperation and excessive tread wear. The GoodYear Triple Treads are a very good tire as long as you rotate them regularly.

  6. I have an 87 Gl Wagon that has oil in the air cleaner box. I recently did a tune up and replaced the PCV valve at that time. I figured I might have gotten a bad one and replaced it again. I am still getting oil in the air box and am considering going with an open breather and plugging the PCV hole in the intake. I would run a turbo catch can to try and keep things a little cleaner.

My questions to everyone out there that is smarter than I am is would this work. I live in a state that does not have vehicle inspections so I have no issue with that.

  7. My 87 gl wagons heater is stuck on panel no matter which setting I put it on. I do notice that I cant hear the vacuum sound I usually hear when switching from one setting to another so I am going to try tracking the vacuum lines.

An interesting side note. The heat that is coming out of the panel is hotter than it has ever been in this car.
