  1. Here they are, hope someone can tell me something: Thanks
  2. Ok well it would hlp if he would hve told me what car this damned thing came off of. I cant tell hell I dont even know if the damned thing works. I dont know if my web cam will take a clear enough picture of it or not but Ill try it and post the image maybe someone can help.
  3. Considering the amount of parts on the subbi that probably has the mitsu emblem on them, will the electric fuel pump from a mitsu work on my Wagon? A friend of mine had one in his shop (he also gave me a ************ load of parts for subarus look for me to post something in the Marketplace next)........and he gave it to me, he said it will work but before I put it on I think I had better ask. Thanks
  4. I found the wires thats how I was able to find that black box. But only the power wire for the pump runs to the front, the ground wire splits off and runs toward the back of the car. Also when I was looking at the box there was a second wire marked the same as the wire that ran to the pump this wire runs to a about 1.5 inch cylinderical relay looking piece thats on the firewall behind the instrument cluster. Whats this then? Im going to be getting a Haynes manual that has some wiring diagrams in it so i can figure out what is what when I go to get a fuel pump for the Dynasty (when it rains it freakin poors dont it ). Another thought that was brought to my attention by another friend of ours is the O2 sensor, Im not even sure the GL has one, but if it does would it have anything to do with the car not wanting to start? Right now ANYTHING goes, because we need this car running and a ok for the winter. My mother-in-law is looking into getting another car for my son so that he can get back and forth to school so Ill have alittle more time to run this problem down more than likely. Thanks again for any input
  5. I looked back under there and didnt see anything except for a black plastic cover at the front edge of the seat. I dont if thats anything since I cant get it off to look under it (kinda hard to work with things when ya aint got the right tools )
  6. OK heres what i found I took the panel off below the colum and over next to the fuse box/hood release area there are what look to be two relays. of course i didnt look any closer so Im not sure if there was a FPCU present or not I wanted to look under there first before I took out a seat to look under there. So now what am I looking at? To me it looks like maybe the flasher and an ignition control relay but Im not sure...I will investigate further and see what else I find.
  7. OK well Ill look aint like I have anything else to do today anyways, the fuel pump in the Dynasty burnt up yesteray (hd a nice leak in the line to the engine so it burnt out trying o keep up) so maybe if I can get one of the three running Ill be money ahead on this deal as the saying goes. But one thing that still has me puzzled is the fact that there isnt any oil pressure when I try to crank the motor, Im guessing that unless the engines running that there wont be any oil pressure. Cant really tell until I figure out whats wrong with the fuel pump ground *sighs* oh well guess Ill try it and see what i figure out.................thanks Ill let yall know.
  8. Ill try and check everything that has been listed here and see if thats my problem. If its the FPSU is there any way to check that? I dont have a DVOM anymore (long Story) but I do have a 12v test light. Ive been looking at NapaOnline and the OEM pump that they are showing has the ground wire already fitted with a ground clip and the red hot wire is still bare so Im guessing that Subaru meant for these pumps to be hooked up through a hot lead somewhere either off the Ignition or the fuse box or maybe through a switch I dont know. Its confusing to say the least here. This is my first time working on or with a Subaru and even this thread has me confused even more . But like I said Ill try and check everything thats been brought up here today or tomorrow (I have to put a window regulator in the Dynasty so Ill just move up the line LOL). Thanks
  9. Power does get to the pump only when the engine is cranking other than that theres nothing. Im about ready to run a toggle switch if thatll work just wanna get it running so the dang thing is out of the driveway so I can get to my Ranger and try and get it running ( no rest for the weary I guess couple that with working on the Dynasty, hell maybe I should start a garage as many cars as I have to work on LOL) . Thanks for the input.
  10. I disconnected what I thought was the fuel line coming from the pump to see if I had any fuel coming to the engine bay but no dice. When I hooked 12 volts up to the pump to verify that it was working the fuel that was still in it came puking out for lack of a better terminology. ANd from what Ive gathered from the board thats what leads me to believe that the problem as Cougar said is somewhere in the relay or the ECU. Im used to dealing with mechanical fuel pumps and have some experience with electric pumps on American cars where the relay is right where you can see it and easily replaced, but with the GL Im stumped.
  11. OK here I am again trying to figure out whats wrong with the 84 GL . Ok since my last post on a completely different topic, but I had the same symptoms. Well I checked the distributor...it turns and i have spark to the plugs (nice bluish-yellow mini lighting bolt) and I have ignition pulses at the coil (as described in another thread elsewhere on the board). So I moved to the next thing on the list, fuses all fuses that are remotely related to ECU, Horn, Ignition Coil etc are fine. Checked fuel pump after repairing somone else's f*%&ed up wiring job and testing the pump from a 12 V source (the pump came on and scared the hell out of me for a second or two when it started) ............... BTW the wife crawled under the car and removed the pump hehehehehe (gotta love farm gals )...............anyways replaced pump into it little craddle and.....................................nothing not a damned thing. There is 12v power coming to the pump, which works when cranking the engine. Correct me if Im wrong but isnt it supposed to cycle when the keys turned to the ON position? It doesnt do this which would indicate a bad pump relay, i havent checked any of the fusible links yet. The filter is new (one in engine compartment) and the filter inline with the fuel pump is clear. Im just not getting any fuel through the line. This is an 84 GL w/ a 1.8L 2bbl Hitachi carb, A/C 4spd and 4wd. SO what gives ?
  12. OK I have a similar problem I think. My sons 84 died on him yesterday at the local park and wouldn't restart again. Well we both agreed that the cat might be the problem after consulting a couple of local mechanics (good friends one lives down the road and the other lives across town). SO today i went and removed the headers from the engine after about 15 minutes I had them off, went to start the car and..................nothing. No oil presure, no nothing, the engine tried to catch but kept spinning over. I havent checked the distributor yet but considering the way the engine is acting.im not getting any spark. this leads to my question, on an EA81 engine......1.)where are the timing belts located? 2.) WOuld a broken timing belt cause the oil guage to read zero? 3.) Was my original thought correct? We are going to be cutting out the cat anyways. Thanks for any help in advance.
  13. Ok I figured out what type of connector I need, its a 12 pin harnes for a Pioneer DEH-205 CD player. I found the wiring color codes (what wire goes where) on another mesage board. As far as the stock wiring, Ill get a Chiltons manual which from my experience usually have pretty good wiring diagrams. Now as to the speakers we were planning to rewire them anyways all I need is power to the stereo and I have a lead on where to find that as well. Luckily my son is a electrical wiz when it comes to radios and speakers so between the two of us we will get it to work (Crossing fingers). thanks for the info
  14. thats where me and my son decided to locate his new stereo................but it was bought by my wife at a yard sale for 5 bucks the lady said it still worked her son just wanted a bigger stereo for his car. I believe she mentioned it was a ford but what year she didnt say. So there in lies the problem with hooking the stereo the rest of the way up........without knowing what year ford it was i cant find a wiring harness to hook to the back of the stereo. The GL came with a cassette player seperate from the stock radio, Ive been thinking that if I can get a harness that attaches to the stereo itself that maybe I can do some rewiring and make a harness that will plug into the stock harness, provide power to the stereo and speakers. As for rear speakers my son already has two roadmaster 2way 6x9's that he did have in the family Dynasty. Im hoping that someone on here can point me in the right direction with this or tell me if my idea wil;l work or turn the car into a rolling fireball. . HELP!!!!!!!!!! Thanks Again for any input
  15. Well I guess this new info requires another trip to the glass man. He was gonna charge me 35 bucks an hour to track this down but I figured it out for free (With Y'alls help)....................BTW there is no plastic trim around the sunroof, all you can see is the rubber gasket (which BTW DOESNT work all that well) and beyond that hole is the original headliner if that helps. Thanks again for the input.
  16. Ok this one has two hinges on the front, one on the left one on the right, and two latches in the same locations on the rear side. So if im reading your post correctly.......the sunroof in my suns car isnt OEM?
  17. OK my sons 84 GL Wagon has a sunroof, well a couple months ago said sunroof shattered when he went to close it. For the last two months we have been parking the car with a rubber raft over the hole during rain storms until we could figure out how and where to get the roof replaced. Well I went to the local autoglass shop today and asked how much it would be to replace it, after getting the year and model of the Subi.........he looked in his catalog which listed from 80-98 subaru's but apparently didnt show one for my application. he gave me two numbers of places to call to find the sunroof and he said he would put it in (I tried the numbers and neither one of them WORKED ) so that leads to my question(s). 1. Was the manual sunroof part of the GL option package? This is a non-turbo 1.8 EA81 powered car with a 4spd manual (Im guessing D/R dont know) 4wd Wagon. Everything else is manual, including steering, windows, locks and the gagues are analog. 2. Is there anyway to tell if the sunroof was a factory installed one or if its aftermarket? Ive looked for the drain holes but cannot see any in the corners of the roof. Thanks for any help to figure this out.
  18. I got to thinking the other day about what I can get my son for Christmas, then it occured to me. The seats in his 84 GL need a facelift........I.E new seat covers so being the poor but loving father that I am........I got to thinking about either buying a set of seat covers or making them. Making them would probably be the cheapest route but with my imagination it starts running into money quickly. This is what I wanna do....I wanna sew up a set of seat covers out of black and blue fabric with silver accents to match the current interior, and while i have the seats uncovered take some hi impact foam and carve them like the high dollar sports seats I see in jegs or summit catalogs (side hip and shoulder bolsters, lumbar support; non adjustable etc.) and make a set of covers for the backseats as well. So tell me, am I just dreaming here, wanting to give him something beyond my means or can I do this at a low cost? Theres no upholstery shops here in kimball as well as no arts and crafts stores.....nearest one is in Cheyenne which is about an hour away and with the price of gas it might as well be 100 miles. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
  19. Well now dad DOES know ..........gonna have to have a talk with him:-\ . I guess he figured what dad doesnt know wont hurt him. Yeah right. Anyways we have narowed the rattle down to either an exhaust hanger or the heat shield. And the hatch latch...............what he DIDNT say was that he was trying to bend the latch hook to make it work until Dear Old Dad noticed the latch rod...............................anyways thanks for the help yall. Let ya know what we find out.
  20. I read a post lastnight about using wheel adapters, someone wa talking about having a wider footprint on their sub.............so that got me to thinking. What if the stock rims could be widened, still have the same backspacing/offset but be able to fit a wider tire under the car...................Ive looked and the tires on my sons subaru look like wheelbarrow wheels. I know that the wider the surface of a tire placed in relation to the road or other surface will increase the traction of the tire. but I get back to my ?.............has anyone tried to widen the stock rims? Or is this just a waste of time?
  21. wat my dad doesn't no is i took it to the offroad 1/4 mile and it was just a dirt road and i was like ok. everyone told me it was hard and i just went through it easy and didn't have ne problems ant then when i went to the skatepark it started to rattle on me and we think its the flywheel and it is cracked but we don't no yet so it get so .. i also have troubles opening my back hatch and getting my stunt bike out so have ne suggestion message me
  22. We have the same problem in our 84 GL, my son crawled under it yesterday while I was changing the oil in the Dynasty. He said there was a "pipe" like deal in the tranny that wa moving around when he grabbed ahold of it.............Im gonna crawl under it tomorrow and have a look myself will use a hammer too to try and isolate it more. The nois happens at idle, under acceleration and uner deceleration. Im hoping its nothing really major though, but it could be, the cars been in a garage for three years and after my son bought it was the first time it was ever driving since 2002 so its kinda expected to have bumps and rattles and groans. Will check though and see what I find .
  23. ok thanks I went out and checked it again and thats where Im at, BTW my son posted that one.........gotta make sure the old man is doing things right . Thanks
  24. i need help finding the fireing order for the distibutor and i was messing with it and i'm not sure but what i came up with was 1,4,3,2 and i just wanted to make sure that was right so it runs a lil smoother please help as much as can
