  1. I'm excited! I've been looking at getting a Subaru for a long time. Got rear ended a few months ago in my pickup and totaled the poor thing. Fortunately, the timing was great and I found a bone stock 99' Brighton manual trans that has 207,000 mi. The cool thing is that it's a one owner car and the PO took immaculate care of this thing. There's a stack of paperwork 5in thick! They kept every receipt and every scrap of paper that came with the car. Even the original dealer window spec sheet. Been in a garage it's entire life in California. Mostly used to commute from Sacramento to SF and LA. Most exciting is New timing, driveline, wheel barrings, wheel cylinders at 198k. Picked it up for 2k. I swear the PO replaced/fixed everything the shop said to. Well, I can't say I'll take as good of care for it as the PO! But I'll do my best. I live way out in the boonies and I'd like to do a lift on it. Been reading about the outback spring/strut swap... is that the best cheep route? Would you buy new or used OEM components or a different brand? Will larger wheels bring it up even more? Just replaced the factory tape deck. It's wired for rear speakers but I can't find them. Anybody know where the speaker wires end up in the rear of the car? Doors? Any online stores folks recommend for parts? Where is the Chilton manual? I've always disliked the Haynes... frankly, I'd rather have both on hand for repairs. I want hard copies not online pdf's! Well, I'm stoked to be part of the community and excited to get this thing customized to my lifestyle! Ryan
  2. Hi all, My name is Mark, and I just bought my '16 outback. New to the Subaru brand, and looking forward to lots of years, and lots of fun. I would be interested if there are any owners clubs that meet in person, not just online? Living in the midwest, I see lots of Subarus on the road, but finding a local owners club is proving a bit of a challenge. Don't get me wrong, online is fine, but there's something about shaking hands, and sharing stories in person (maybe making some new stories together!) that appeals to my social nature. Any info on local/regional owners clubs would be appreciated. Have a great day, Mark
  3. Just traded an 08 Jeep Grand Cherokee on a 2014 Legacy! So far I love the Legacy! Hoping it will be a great investment for many years to come.
  4. So I am inbetween cars right now and I found this awesome community. Ive been considering a 2003 Subaru Forester XS, and I really just want everyone's opinion. My main concerns are: I do not want to buy someone else's problem; I just got rid of a car that had plenty of issues, which is why I sold it. I hear nothing but amazing things from people about Subarus. The one I am looking at has 150,000 miles, but has been a one owner vehicle, no crashes, clean title, regular maintenance, etc...what do you all think? Sound like a sure thing, or should I have reservations? I am excited nonetheless. Thanks!
  5. Hello everyone! I am a 1st time owner of a '08 Impreza 2.5i. I was very excited to buy this car after a snow related accident compromised my Mazda3 two weeks ago. Unfortunately, four days ago I bought from a very dishonest dealership that passed the car off in good condition and am afraid I'll be stuck with repair costs (P0420 code, elusive coolant leak, power steering pump going bad (whining sound), outside air temperature doesn't display, tire pressure light won't go off even when tires at proper pressure...).They're now telling me that there is no check engine light on (can they shut it off to avoid fixing it?). Hoping I can receive some advice about fixing these problems without spending a fortune on already expensive repairs. Thank you!
  6. I am a first time Subaru owner. I bought a 2005 Forester XS two days ago and I have been surfing for tips on quirks and problem parts to watch for as well as to see how the recommended service intervals match up with real life service needs. My dad owned two Subarus and I hope to make this one last as long as his first (1985 wagon that didn't give up until 2000.). So far I love it, though as soon as i got home the review mirror fell off. But that has been my luck with cars.
