  1. BRAT 85 1.8 engine. After retrieving from three months storage the oil pressure cage stays at zero. Prior to storage it would go up to 30 when cold and drop to 15 when warm.. with the sender disconnected gauge reads 0 lead shorted to ground gauge goes to max. Ohm meter on sending unit shows infinite with engine off. Engine on ohms stays at infinite. With engine on I would expect some resistance to be indicated, I think. Do I have bad sending unit.Taking to shop to have mechanical check of pressure at new pump.
  2. Hi, this is my first post to USMB. My current project is an 83 Brat, 131k miles, sat for the last 10-15 years in Texas, probably in the direct sun. The oil pressure gauge shows nominal pressure when the engine is cold. Over the first 10 minutes of running, the oil pressure eventually drops to zero as the temperature comes up. Here's what I have tried: - drain the oil looking for sludge; fill with oil and sludge remover and run 10 minutes; fill again with new filter - switch to 20W-50 Didn't find any sludge. The heavier oil helps a little (I think), but still the pressure goes all the way down to zero. I'm convinced that the oil pump is working, else I should see zero pressure when the engine is cold. I could replace the oil pressure sending unit, but why would the sending unit malfunction only when warm? Has anyone else had this problem?
  3. I have a very recent & rapidly declining oil pressure issue on an otherwise healthy engine at 126,XXX miles. Cold engine starts at 33 psi @ 1300 rpm, but I can watch it drop to down around 5 psi @ 800 rpm only a few minutes later. Is there a common/typical issue that crops up?
  4. I have an 82 GL Wagon 4X4 ans since I have owned it it has ran strong but the oil pressure drops to almost nothing when it is idiling for a minute, what could the problem be? Also the front end has started making a kinda rattling/cluncking noise when cruising between 1500-2000 RPM's (4th gear driving 35-40 MPH) my steering boot started leaking a while ago so i am going to replace it this weekend, could it possibly be the tie rod where it connects into the rack? or would it be in the CV axel / transmission connection?
