need tires

Featured Replies

I need to get new tires soon and was wondering if anyone out there would know if there is any noticeable power gain from running a stock sized tire? I currently have 185-80-13 on my 84 turbo Brat. Should I stay with a taller tire or go stock?

USMB for life.

since the stock tire is a 185/70/13 you would be loosing about 1.5 inches in diameter.

I was just curious if anyone knew if there was any noticeable gain in bottom end acceleration running the stock tire.My Brat has the autotragic trans in it wich makes bottom end power basicly non existant.Just wondering if the taller tires compounded the lack of bottom end power. I like the ride height of the tires I've got on it now I was actually thinking of cranking the suspension up a bit just cause it looks cool.

the difference in ride height between the two sizes is only about 3/4 inch(1.5 inch diameter).. not enough to make a big difference in acceleration.

bigger tires will make her feel slower because of the change in gearing, i'm running 28" swampers and can really tell the difference even with a manual. depends what you want it for, on road, i'd stick to stock, but if you are going for looks or offroad, bigger tires may slow you down but thats the price you pay to look cool, and go like stink in the mud

ok i honestly could not tell the difference when i switched from 175/70 to 185/70. i also could not tell the difference when i went from 185/70 to 185/80. i bet if you went directly from 185/80 to 175/70 or smaller, you would notice, but i wouldn't bother. it's not like all of the sudden you'd have a race car, and i would trade the clearence for the performance gain. that's my opininion and i'm stickin' to it.
