November 8, 200916 yr EJ 22 into an EA81 wagon. 1) Are you guys putting the new fuel pump where the old one went? (on the ea81, by the gas tank) 2) Is the pitch stopper necessary? Edited November 8, 200916 yr by RAugur33
November 8, 200916 yr I got my fuel pump from an older legacy and altered the mounting plate so it was in the same place. The pitch stopper I still haven't installed mine and haven't had any noticeable trouble. Others have never put one in I know. I'm sure a smarter person will come along and give more detailed info.
November 8, 200916 yr yep, stock pump location in both my swaps. no pitch stopper in either. just pulled the motor out of my wagon. 290k total miles, 60k in the loyale. didn't even have [completely] torn motor mounts. were I to do it again. I would definitely use the SJR adapter plate with the little tabs for the pitch stopper. but if it's not fairly convenient....it's not entirely necessary.
November 22, 200916 yr When i was 20 i transplanted a ford 429 cobra jet into my 1970 Ford Truck. I went from about 280 horse with the stock 390 to about 425 horse and 475 foot pounds of tourqe. I stomped on it a couple times(of course) and tore one of the motor mounts, rather than pull the engine to change it, i bought two sections of heavy chain, bolted it to both sides of the engine and welded other ends to the frame. I never had a problem after that, i wonder if something like this would work here?
November 22, 200916 yr It is so easy to make an appropriate length pitch stopper, why not do it? Just use a bracket from an EJ trans and modify it it to bolt to the spine of you're EA trans, then cut your old pitch stopper, sleeve it, bolt it all in place then weld it. remove and paint optional without one you will break motor mounts.......sooner or later......
November 22, 200916 yr then weld it. not easy for all of us. without one you will break motor mounts.......sooner or later...... no pitch stopper in either. just pulled the motor out of my wagon. 290k total miles, 60k in the loyale. didn't even have [completely] torn motor mounts. seriously. not guaranteed. and I wasn't exactly easy on my car. it wasn't wheeling....but many many many ice races, and autocrosses. not to mention delivering pizzas here in Duluth (hills.....frequently called the little san fran). it got some abuse. yea, good idea. if I had the parts/equipment for it. I certainly would do it. but I had neither. and it never became enough of a priority to fix it. actually...I got a couple videos of it with the hood off. I'll post them on youtube. you wouldn't believe how little the engine moves. done: Edited November 22, 200916 yr by Numbchux
