November 13, 200916 yr I have got a 1997 Subaru Impreza Sport and the heat shield rattles really bad in between shifts and when i accelerate hard, i was thinking i could either weld it or hose clamp it. Hose clamping it would be alot easier but will it last. can anybody help me out here? i really appreciate any answer! thanks guys
November 13, 200916 yr lol search there is probably trillions of threads about heatshields. and there rattling. It is the story of a car owner and his subaru really. Basically heatshields and headgaskets xD
November 13, 200916 yr Author yea it would just be kind of nice to have a nice clean sounding thrashing machine.... i think thats an oxy-moron actually! haha
November 13, 200916 yr I would not get rid of them. They protect the hot exhaust from debree and help keep the pipes warm Why do people go for the tough solutions and not the easy ones first? Two words. Hose Clamps. Or get under the car and re-crimp the joints of the shields. Large hose clamps work well too. nipper
November 13, 200916 yr Some have rammed screws or small bolts between shield and pipe then tightened in place with hose clamps. Good luck--and welcome aboard, andrew.
November 13, 200916 yr Hi, look at number #10. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=51554 Good Luck bob
November 13, 200916 yr I cut 3-4 in long pieces of a metal coat hanger and jammed them in between the shield and the exhaust pipe. It has worked fine.
November 13, 200916 yr The heat sheilds were also loose on my Impreza . All you need is some good stainless steel hose clamps, from a parts store , then fasten them snug . Try to keep the gear tightening part up , so as not to snag road debris . Good luck P.S. stainless clamps last a long time , had one on my Ford Bronco II for 5 years....
