December 8, 200916 yr My speedo on my 90' Loyale is sticking. I will take her up to about 65mph, slow down to about 45 at it will still read 65, then swoop down to 45. Are these things electronic or mechanical, I dont hear any noise or binding. Thoughts? Thanks, S
December 8, 200916 yr Your cable that goes to the trans from your gauge is most likely sticking. Yes it is mechanical and may need to be greased a bit.
December 8, 200916 yr One of mine was doing that. Since I have 2 identical cars, I learned whrer the tach is for a few of the MPH speeds, and drove it by the tach. Eventually, it stopped sticking. My guess is it is something in the gauge itself. If the cable stuck, it would break off and read zero. It's driven by a gear in the tranny
December 8, 200916 yr It's the gauge itself. You will need to replace the cluster. They are very plentiful at the junk yards. This comes up a lot when it's cold out - the temp drop causes the old, dried-up lube in the speedo head to get sticky. GD
December 8, 200916 yr I found on mine that it was the pointer that had distorted and was rubbing against the dial face. I just roved the clear plastic cover and cut the pointer down a touch. Job Done!
