ramdom questions about loyales

Featured Replies

recently i bought a 91 subaru loyale with an EA82, my plans are to install a turbo of some kind and an sjr lift . some questons i have been wondering are

how many lbs of boost can actually be run through my motor without cracking my block?

what is the best kind of turbo to get?

and

how exactly can you make toyota 6 lug fit on my wagon?

thanks yall

First off, any EA82 with either a turbo swao or a complete EA82T will be a nightmare to you. Just do a EJ swap into it, you'll never look back.

As far as a Toyota 6 lug, I think you'll either need to drill out the wheels to fit the 4x140mm lug pattern or drill out the hubs for 6 lugs. People have done it on here, check out the offroad forum or do a search.

Just about 0. LOL.

That's a 9.5:1 compression block in an engine that's got all the same problems (too numerous to discuss here) that the 7.7:1 comp. turbo block's have. You'll pop the headgaskets or worse (think holes where they shouldn't be) if you turbo it. On the bright side you can rest assured that cracking the block will probably not be a problem - that never happens. Big, gaping cracks in the heads, sure. But the block will take it.

You should do some searches on the EA82T and what it's failings are before you decide you want to turbo that heap. The EA82 with SPFI in it's non-turbo form (your engine) is an *ok* engine. They will last a long time if maintained and if you can stand the timing belts and the quirkyness of them - turbo it and you'll be crying in your cheerios.

GD

I ran a SPFI shortblock with gen 3 turbo heads and a TD04 turbo.... Lasted about 200 miles before I blew the ringlands off of #2 and #4 cylinders at 12psi:rolleyes:

EA82's of any variery (turbo, carbed, spfi, etc) make good boat anchors  It is worth nothing that the EA82 SPFI system is a very robust and simple fuel injection setup.IMO the best part about an EA82 is the SPFI FI system, the 5 speed DR,and some bits on the body..

Just swap swap in an EJ and your will have all the power you will ever need(for the most part) and fantastic reliability .

well i already have an JDM EJ 2.0 twin turbo swaped loyale on the way. i am wanting a toy. we get deep snow in the winter and great mud in the spring.

perfect conditions for a lifted suby. i am just looking to get as much power from this EA82 as possible. no turbo, i will live.

You aren't going to get more power from the EA82. You're best off just EJ swapping it if you want power.

Honestly you dont need much power then what you got with the ea82. Plenty of people wheel with that engine and done seem to have to much trouble. Do they want more, yes but what they have is fine. You already have fuel injection which is miles above the carb setup these vehicles had in 87. If you really want to change engines then the ej22 is the way to go. But since your only wheelin it and drivin in the snow i would think the engine in the car is fine.

first off, if either swapping ea82 turbo, adding a turbo to your motor, or installing an EJ and adding a turbo to it, you will need a turbo engine crossmember, or modify the existing one to allow clearance for the up-pipe

you would be better off finding an ea82 turbo car to build on, much simpler approach.

with ea82 there is no "bolt on". You either start out with one that is turbo to begin with, or be prepared to rebuild half your car just to run a stock configuration at least.

Supercharging it would make more sense.

Well, neither is a good choice.

The real solution to more power is a ej22 swap. done.

or, if you are set on having a Turbo, then sell your car for whatever you can get for it, and then start looking around on craigslist for a factory Turbo car. then we can help you. The problem wit finding a factory turbo ea82 car is that the engine in their is going to be garbage. win for cheap price to buy the car, fail for what are you gonna do? Again, swap to ej22 and be done.
