ej22t

does a ej22t come stock with forged or dished pistons?

forged crank rod and pistons, capable of 30psi boost levels all day on the stock setup.......with engine management and bigger turbo, high flow injectors. Best engine Subaru ever made..1991 was the only year with the oil filter cooler machined into the block, 92-94 did not have that. All had piston oil squirters to help cool....

No, EJ22t rods and cranks are the same as EJ22e, EJ18 etc and the pistons are cast.

disagree...

The stock con rods, although forged, are thinner than your typical aftermarket forged rods, however, like the pistons, these rods have been known to withstand up to 350 crank hp.

The EJ22T’s crankshaft is forged and heat treated steel and weighs only 20 lbs. Total length is only 13.5 inches. The short stroke design gives about .750 inch of crank pin vs. main journal overlap, making it very stiff. Oiling is reasonably well thought out. The crank fillets are rolled for low stress and fatigue resistance. Journal diameters are 2.36 mains and 2.05 on the rods. The crank is fully counterweighted, contributing to the overall smoothness of engine operation.

So some idiot made a website with bad info.

I've had these engines apart side by side and they are the same.

Same part numbers too.

Go to the dealer and check if you doubt me. EJ22E and EJ22T take the same part number crank and rods.

Might be a good idea to read thru this thread, but heres a post pertaining to this discussion. And Matt Monson knows what he's talking about...

Actually they are sought solely for the closed deck block. The crank and rods are nothing special and not really different from any other Subaru engine. And if you switch in the pistons, which are cast, not forged and also nothing special, and mate the Ej25 heads onto it, you get super low compression down around 7:1. It's better to just leave the Ej22E pistons in place because it keeps the comprssion in the mid 8's:1 and you don't have to crack the case.

I've got mine apart right now. As mentioned, the crank and rods are forged, but are the same as what is in the non-turbo engines. I will be putting Eagle rods back in with forged Weiseco pistons.

Compression ratio with the stock pistons is 8.0:1

Here are some miscellaneous pictures of the tear down.

Pistons are cast but coated in the EJ22T...check this LINK for more info, but essentially: "........and the pistons were given a dished crown (which lowers the compression ratio from 9.5:1 to 8.0:1), stronger rings, longer wrist pins and a molybdenum coating."

Again, anyone can make a website or a post on one. How could the wrist pin be longer? They would hang out the side of the piston.

The wrist pins have a different part # in the subaru parts catalog.

pretty sure all these questions and answers are posted over on bbs.legacycentral.org

no use in beating it over and over again, when a search there will provide all info.
