April 27, 201015 yr So i'm wondering if there is any other motors (besides another ej22 phase 2) that will fit into the 99 impreza outback sport? I'm having a hard time finding another phase 2. Can i just swap the phase 2 intake onto another ej22 and if so what year of ej22 will work? And is there any sure way to tell what year a motor is by the numbers on it? Thank you again for your help! April 27, 201015 yr you can probably swap the heads and intake from the phase 2 onto a phase 1 block, but the ej22 phase 2 intake is the same as ej25 intake of similar years, i think. so it is different than the ej22 phase 1 intake.
April 27, 201015 yr I think a Phase II 2.5 will bolt right in and plug n' play. Look for motors from a 2000+ Legacy Outback or 99+ Forrester
April 28, 201015 yr I have a motor from a 99 Forster 99, SOHC. It has only two engine harness connectors on the back and there is no EGR valve. Is this what you have in the OBS? Colorado Springs. Larry
April 28, 201015 yr Author yes that sounds like the same motor i have. and the spark plugs are buried deep in the heads. so you making a trip to idaho soon? just kidding! but ya thats what i need! thanks guys!
April 28, 201015 yr If you have a business address to ship to or could pick it up at the dock, I' would think shipping would be about $200. I could strip it down as far as you want to make it lighter or ship it complete. I have not tested this engine, but it came out of a 99 Forster that was hit broad side hard. Compression seems good and the plugs and oil look good. $350 + shipping. Larry
April 28, 201015 yr I know the intake/head matchup on my 95 2.2 was different than what my 99 is. So, if you got a phase I would guess you would have to swap the heads. But, if you are swapping heads, you can get yourself a 2.5 block if you want. However, with phase II to phase I EJ22, you might be able to just switch the throttle bodies off the intake manifolds...I dunno. I no longer have a phase I in my possession, so I can't look.
