getting Subaru Tech documents

Featured Replies

I have been trying to buy a subscription to the tech info on the Subaru site but I just end up in a loop back to the main page. Tried turning off Norton firewall and a bunch of other things to no avail. I would really like a manual for my new baby (02 Forester S). Any advice?

do you have a pop-up blocker? sometimes they can block pop-up info/login boxes or block scripts which the site may need. otherwise, email them on monday for more help...

I think the info you are talking about may only be available to dealer service folks.

If you want to buy the service manuals here is a link you can use. Jamie (Subiegal) will give you a good deal on the manuals compared to the full dealer prices. The entire set for my Outback consisted of 8 manuals. You may just want to get some of the main ones. You can find CD manuals on Ebay for around $15 if you want to go that route.

got there through a different link on the site. It is hard to beat the Subaru manuals for $20. (nothing like DSL)

Yes the $20 for 24-hour download time is a good deal.

One word of warning: the download can be quite time-consuming, even with a fast internet connection. The Factory Service Manuals consist of hundreds of indivividual PDF files. Be sure to rename each PDF file with a meaningful description (the original file names are just a string of numbers), and download into a set of appropriately-named folders. This makes retrieval and reading much easier.

Expect to spend several hours at the keyboard, but you'll get an excellent manual out of it.

It sounds an awful lot like you are blocking cookies from the website if you keep getting kicked back to the main page.

One word of caution, some of the files come through with a .txt file extension and you have to force it with the .pdf extension. A real pain if you don't realize it. What I did prior to starting the download is create folders with each of the major headings, then sub-folders to drop each of the downloaded files into. Oh, I then cut and pasted the name of the file into the download window to keep them consistent with the FSM descriptions. A real pain but for $20 you can't complain.

I had the same problem with the txt file extension, took me a while to realize it though. I e-mailed them about the problem, but they couldn't duplicate it. Glad to know It wasn't just me screwing up!

Soup,

Yep, was a real PITA. I thought I had cleaned them up but did end up with about a dozen txt files. Any thoughts on how to recover them as a pdf file. I tried to rename them, no luck. I then opened and resaved as a pdf, no luck. Any thoughts.

Thanks and I think I will call them just to let them know it happened to me. When it would happen, it would be an entire sub section that would be offered as txt. Very weird.

Yohy,

I don't know of any way to recover them, other than downloading them again. What model year did you download, If I have those file's I could e-mail them to you.

Dan,

The manual was for the '97 MY (Legacy L sedan).

I do have the 1997 legacy manuals. All of mine were re-named with the appropriate title, when downloaded. If you want to try e-mailing them, send me the names of the ones you want. My e-mail is dk.w@sympatico.ca

Can somebody post an example of the Subaru Tech Info .pdf?

I tried to sample the product from the web site.

Tha 72hr pass sounds like a good idea, but I'd like to preview the product.

Thanks

Mark

I got the 99 manual on disc and it is arranged with a bunch of .pdf files in various folders as you are all describing. The disc doesn't look very full when you get it, but when the files are all printed out, it makes a stack of paper over 30" thick. very high quality prints, looks like factory printing

Sounds interesting. Can you send a .pdf?

Thanks

mark
