NOOB- can you put ea82 heads on an ea82T?

Featured Replies

I'm a professional Technician and specialize in Subaru Repair, however this is my first older gen project. I've purchased two GL-10's one 86 and one 87. I am resealing one motor to use (blown H-gasket confirmed) and just curious if you could bolt on a good set of ea82 NA heads with the ea82T cam towers on the ea82T block.

if you have a blown head gasket and the heads aren't cracked why not put new head gaskets in and be done with it.

BTW search bridging cracks they are not as bad as you might think.

NA heads WILL work on a turbo engine, but they lack the oil feed and return lines for the turbo on the head, so it's very unpractical. In theory you could drill and tap these holes, but getting all the metal out will difficult.

not sure what you got over there joost, but over here many NA heads (non-XT) are single port intakes and turbo's are dual ports. no way to bolt a dual port turbo manifold to a single port head.

Show me a set of EA82T (used) heads that arent cracked between the valves.

Even if the are, its not a issue unless the surface is deformed and messes with the valve seat.

All EA82 with MPFI were dual port intakes.

Thanks for the info guys any reccomended h-gaskets over OE?

Felpro perma-seal

I think Turbone meant Perma-torque.:-\

Also, something you may not know about (yet!) are oil passage seals between the head and cam-case. They may look like o-rings, may have even been replaced by o-rings, but they are special rubber-covered metal seals. Better yet, I have not heard of them being included in any aftermarket gasket set.

It's OK, Rob. After the last few months, I am the LAST one to throw stones at mis-typing/-speaking. I just figured that the Parts Stores get confused enough without us adding to their day.

Ah yes, I forgot about that, most non-turbo 1.8 subaru's here (all 5 of em:rolleyes:) are MPFI.
