Sensor under alternator\ps pump leaking?

Featured Replies

There's been a phantom wet spot under my power steering pump\alternator for a while now I just noticed moisture leaking out of the top of the sensor there?? Am I imagining this and which sensor is this? It's a 1998 ej25.

If it's directly above the crank, it's the crank sensor.

The only thing that comes to mind with the description that you gave.

Would it be oil or coolant leaking out of it?

oil.

I assume that you are aware that the PS pump leaking is a common problem.

Stick your finger into the liquid. Green - coolant (and I can't believe that's what it is if it's the sensor I'm thinking), brown/black oil (most likely if it's the sensor, red or redish black it's power steering fluid (ATF).

Oil pressure switch. Pretty sure that's a one wire deal.

The Crank position sensor would have no reason to "leak" because there is no passage inside the crankcase for oil to exit from.

The power steering pump commonly leaks and drips right in that area as well. But that will be more towards the passenger side head. The oil pressure switch is closer to the center of the block.

oil,i had one leak oil all over the top of a motor.easy fix pull alt go picnpull and replace with non leaker

oil pressure sensor......

its leeaking. so get a new one.

end of thread.

PS pump leak is more common on the EJ's - that's been my experience. The oil pressure idiot switch is not that common of a leak.

I wish I could reach the area to at least stick a finger in it but the area is unreachable til I take something off\out. It IS an oily looking residue and ATF color is not noted. Whatever it is, it's ultra slow...for now. Thanks for the input!!-Trev

PS pump for sure---thanks again.
Just FYI, assuming that the tank for the power steering pump is right on top of the pump, then there is a small gasket that fits between the tank and the pump. It's $2ish from the dealer. That is probably the source of the leak.
