November 14, 201015 yr Thinking I need another distributor for an 8 9 XT. Also thinking all the EA82 NA distributors after 1988 interchange but 100% sure of this. Anyone know for sure?
November 15, 201015 yr Any 87+ ('86 SPFI as well) EA82 FI distributor will work - check connector AND pinout as some will plug in but not work due to the pinout changing. All the optical pickup distributors are the same other than the wireing. GD
November 15, 201015 yr And the wiring is interchangable if it's off - just unscrew it from the base and swap plug/wires with the original. I had to do that to mine.
November 15, 201015 yr Any 88+ disty will work. They will have the square plug. 86 and 87 optical disty will have round plug. If you want to use one of these, you will need to repin the wires into a square connector. When doing so, swap the position of the Green and the White wires on the DISTY side of the connector.
September 2, 201411 yr and, I am assuming that worked john in KY ?I have a dizzy somewhere from the 88 or later models, part # ending in 450 and would like to make it work in place of a part #410 optical dist. which was fitted to an April 87 spider turbo factory AWD XT, just in case I need one as a spare and know that it works and tests up OK before that need event.Best info I have got so far is just above. Had been told it was black wire to be swaped with a white wire, but no one said anything about a plug shape until found this ! and, is it essentially a colour for colour connection at the plug ? red, white brown green or whatever colours same each side body to dizzy ? It's not a matching color thing.......the wiring on the body side won't match the colors on the disty. Do you have your 87.5 disty with it's matching connector(round)? If so you CAN swap connector with an 88 or newer disty (square) by simply matching colors on the distys.......the colors on the body harness will not match. FWIW...the wires that you need to swap pins to make 87 work with 88 or vice versa.......are the Green and the White wires AT THE DISTY side. Not sure what colors excactly on the body harness......again, changed a bit over the years.
