I tripped over this for the brave

A couple other sources:

Transmission core is known as R4AX-EL and EC8. When I searched this time, Google did not return some of the sites that I have looked at before. Quite a few companies offer parts, kits and rebuild manuals for the 4EAT and M41/M41a (aka 3AT)

Your brave, brave, brave people. I haven't built a tranny since tech school, and hope and never want to again. But the old wallet may say otherwise at some point.

I did several three speed auto's and one GM with lockup.

After that i will gladly put in a used one before getting into a rebuilt. rebuilts are cranked out by a factory, I do not of a shop that rebuilds them by hand anymore (I am sure there are a few out there some place)

The only exception may be the Justy, which surprsingly still come from subaru.

Not too tough. I experienced my first rebuild due to a stacked pump. The convertor slipped causing misalignment. Broke the drive gear into 3 pieces. Before I was done the entire assembly was sitting on the ground. But, all it cost me was time. Fortunately, I knew a few people in the industry that threw a few used parts at me. Put it back together and it even worked
