tallest geared 2wd 5spd

Featured Replies

i test drove an '82 gl-(5?) wagon with a 2wd 5spd with cruise, power steering, electric windows and cassette player. It's in alright shape, a little surface rust but the undercarriage and wheel wells look solid. I noticed riding down the interstate it was turning about 2500rpm at 65 in 5th gear???? I've never driven a Subie with that high of gearing. Anybody know if this is a rare transmission or not and what years was it offered??? 138,000 miles paint kinda rough damage to front right fender making driver door rough to open and shut. Ran very good. What's it worth??

i've driven a 83 gl coupe with a 2wd 5spd that turned rpms like you are talking about....did have to kick it down a gear on pretty much any hill worth calling a hill tho

That'd be a nice trans to put a EJ22 infront of.

From what I remember (I haven't driven it in 2 years) of my 2x4 1984 wagon, it's geared very tall. As already stated it's pretty much impossible to pull any hills in 5th but it does get really good milage :)

Isn't it because the 2wd trannies have a 3.7 diff?

My 1985 FWD Weberized EA82 does exactly the Same. Maybe that's Why it is Very economic to Drive? ... but Also I Need to Downgear to 4th or even 3rd Gear to Go Uphills in my Very Mountany Country.

i was just driving 79 brat yesterday, and it seemd to have low low gears cruising around in fourth at 30.. My hatch if I did that wouldnt move at all., third gear up to 45 50
