yes, but they are interchangeable.

just that the oil level would be off? unless the pan is going to rust out I don't think I need a new pan just laying around.

IIR recall it's the design of the pan and not the dipstick.

interior baffle plates are different too. I have seen half a dozen designs, all interchange though.

man I'm still nervous about putting on this oil pan from a ej22.. brand new aftermarket pan since they say the ej25 pan holds about 1/2qt more so that means I need to check it more often when it's under the full mark?

 

speaking of that I take it the seals that come with it are for the oil pick up?

personally,i wouldnt put an aftermarket pan on it it, if it is made of steel. Aftermarket metals will rust in a year and you will wish you used oem.

Last night I replaced the (dented) oil pan on the EJ22 I bought to replace the EJ25 on my car, with the EJ25 oil pan. Perfect fitting, so no problems whatsoever.

 

The main difference between the two is the shape: the EJ22's is round-ish, while the EJ25 has a flat bottom, making it squarish The depth seems to be the same.

If you put that pan on a 2.5 you'll be concerned about it and need to check the oil more often. If you have a DOHC 2.5 there is simply more oil needed in the engine, more places for it to be than in a SOHC 2.2.

is one of these for the back of the oil pump? If so what's the other two rubber o-rings for?

 

Having something to use as a size reference would help... But if my experience helps, the oil pump o'ring should be blue. The two smaller ones look a lot like the ones I ordered for the oil dipstick tube.

I hear that oring from the dealer is like $6?

I bought mine at 1stsubaruparts, and I think it was $2 or so. I was ordering many more parts, so even with the shipping price it made sense.

 

With the markup at local dealers, prices go up too quickly for my taste... $6 for an o'ring is just ridiculous.

EDIT: I think I know where the larger o'ring goes: it looks like the one between the block and the built-in tube in the oil pan. It's not actually an o'ring, but some sort of rubber seal. I'm not talking about the pickup tube (which is bolted to the block and uses an o'ring), but what I presume is a drain at the back of the pan.

 

Edit 2: Forget 1stsubaruparts... you are very close to subarupartsforyou I wonder if you can order through their website and pick up the stuff in person.

Yep... that's the one. It was $2.20 at 1stsubaruparts, and $3 at subarupartsforyou. But shipping on either one is more than $10, so unless you are buying something else it may not make sense.
