OK, my car is an 88 GL10 Turbo AWD Auto. First of all, do you guys call that an RX?

 

Secondly. My car does not have air suspension any more. I would like to know what the stuff that is in my car is now ie Springs and struts. The back end is way up in the air and the front end is what I call a normal height . What should I look at?

well subaru never made an RX wagon.. you just have a GL-10 turbo wagon.. and any model of subaru before the legacy's came out was not AWD, they were 4WD..

 

anyways, the RX's were either 3 door's with a body kit, ea82 turbo engines, 5-speed manual trans with center diff lock, 4wd

they were sedans which were 5-speed, turbo, 4wd..

 

sounds to me like your car had air suspension originally and someone swapped it for the plain old stuff.. the reason being, that each air strut is about $500 to replace.. thats not including the compressor, etc.. its much cheaper to change a regular strut..

You might find a set of adjustable rear struts. Likely they replaced them with non-adjustable's. That might get you a bit lower. I'm not totally sure tho - maybe someone else will know for sure.

If your car has the 4-spd auto (and I expect it does), then it really IS AWD (full-time 4wd).

 

'88 was the first year for that transmission.

you might have 2wd front struts and 4wd rear coilovers causing a rake, cause the 4wd ones are taller.

My car is a sedan, turbo, automatic. It says full time 4wd on the back and on the cast aluminum piece on the top of the intake. I think it might have 2wd front struts and it does have coil overs on the back. And by the way, it has a sway bar on the back as well

The 4x4 coilovers have a height adjustment. Actually, the 4x4 setup has height adjustments both front and back.

 

On the back, there are "teeth" that the spring mount clicks into place on near the bottom of the coilover assembly. There are 3 or 4 teeth you can set ity to, each with a varying ride height. You would need a spring compressor to compress the spring, and then readjust the height.

 

The fronts can be adjusted very easily, you just loosen the two bolts on the side of the spring perch, and spin the bolt in the center to raise/lower.

Sorry CIS, but the 881/2 4 sp auto was not AWD, it is a Full Time 4WD tranny and is different then the EJ series AWD auto.

i was gonna say that same thing.. there is a difference between 4wd, fulltime 4wd, and awd... none are the same..

I thought that center diff=AWD?

Added note. the above info is correct, but only applies to 85-86 models. 87 and up were not adjustable.

I am going to do a closer inspection of what this car has
