Catalytic Converter??? California Sucks!!! :-(

Featured Replies

Murphy, the $ 500 87 Turbo Wagon, needs both front and back catalytic converters. I live in California, and they are impossible to find. There are tons of after-market ones on line, but, of course, they DON'T sell them to residents of California, because, California has SPECIAL LAWS that restrict which ones you can put in, and, when you CAN find them, the California approved ones are, of course, THREE TIMES AS EXPENSIVE!!!!!

I swear, on a daily basis, I seem to be asking myself... Why do I still live here???

I'm probably going to sell my Murph.... But I would like to have it in top running condition and get some money for her. Oh, and I just had to have new tires put on right before the rear cat melted into a ball, blocking the exhaust. So I'm out $ 400 + bucks!

Crap! If you posted about a month ago I could have sold you both cats in great shape off a CA 86 GL wagon.

Will non-CA cats pass CA emissions? If they do, you could have them ready for pick up at a out of state parts store and make the drive to get them.

They have to be from a turbo set-up... At least the front anyway!

Whether or not it will pass would depend on whether they allow Genuine Subaru Cats to be put on the car. It will have one bung for O2. Not much else to it. The cat is worth $90.00 scrap, btw.

I'm not sure if there is a difference but I'm scrapping the drivetrain in my '89 RX and have the cats you might need.

RX and wagon should be the same.

let me know what you'll be asking for them and when they will be available.

Just Sharing info: My 1985 EA82 Wagon came New Runnin' from California to Honduras back then and in 1993 Both Cat got Poisoned due to the Leaded Fuel in my Country... (Here came unleaded 'til 1994) So I Removed both on March, 1993 and since then my Subie runs Better; There's no Need for Cat on my Country! :)

PM me the price. Have to either get Murphy running again, or sell it... or do both!
